Survivor 51 is set to launch a brand-new chapter for the long-running CBS reality competition. Titled “The Open Era,” the season will bring 21 brand-new castaways to Fiji, where they will battle for the $1 million prize and the title of Sole Survivor. The big change this time is that every twist, idol, and advantage from the show’s 26-year history can now appear at any moment, in any order, without warning. Host Jeff Probst returns to guide the players through what he calls a “shape-shifting game.”
Survivor 51 Premiere Date and Weekly Schedule
Survivor 51 premieres on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. The first episode will be a special two-hour premiere, running from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
After the premiere, the show moves to 90-minute weekly episodes starting Wednesday, September 30, airing at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. This marks a change from the standard one-hour format that has been used in recent seasons.
For viewers outside the United States, episodes stream on Paramount+ the day after they air. Paramount+ Premium subscribers can watch live, while Essential subscribers get episodes on demand the following day.
Meet the 21 New Castaways
The Survivor 51 cast features 21 players from the United States and Canada, ranging in age from 24 to 49. The group includes a wide mix of professions, from a professional wrestler and a voice actress to a federal prosecutor and a sociology professor.
Aaliyah Puglia (24, Chef) is from Gloucester City, New Jersey, and now lives in Providence, Rhode Island. Alexis Levine (34, Criminal Defense Attorney) is from Atlanta, Georgia. An “Thien An” Nguyen (24, Medical Student) is from Fort Worth, Texas.
Ana Sani (34, Voice Actress) is from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Brady Booker (27, Pro Wrestler) is from LaSalle, Illinois, and competes for All-Elite Wrestling. Carter Krull (24, Farmer) is from Rock Rapids, Iowa, and also runs a snowcone truck and moving company.
Cristian Chavez (25, Human Resources) is from Salt Lake City, Utah. Danny “Kilby” Kilby (30, Game Designer) is from Ontario, Canada. Devin Way (33, Actor) is from Lufkin, Texas, and has appeared on Grey’s Anatomy.
Eric Macksoud (34, Licensed Clinician) is from Lincoln, Rhode Island. Angelica “Jelly” Loblack (29, Sociology Professor) is from Garland, Texas, and Midwest City, Oklahoma, now living in Bloomington, Indiana. Jenna Doore (30, Wedding Photographer) is from Toledo, Ohio.
Kristin Flickinger (49, Crisis Management) is from Ketchum, Idaho. Lewis Kelly (28, Farmer) is from Dublin, Ireland, now living in Puerto Rico. Linnea Capobianco (25, Entrepreneur) is from Kearny, New Jersey.
Maggie Nestor (40, Farmer) is from Middleway, West Virginia. Mike Pinsky (32, Baseball Executive) works for the New York Yankees and is from New York City. Ori Jean-Charles (27, Personal Trainer) is from Spring Valley, New York.
Patt Cannaday (33, Federal Prosecutor) is from Tampa, Florida, now living in Washington, D.C.. Rob Antonson (40, Airline Gate Agent) is from Johnston, Rhode Island. Sharonda Cox (34, OBGYN Resident) is from Pompano Beach, Florida.
What the Open Era Twist Means for the Game
The biggest change in Survivor 51 is the “Open Era” format. According to CBS, this means “every twist, every idol, every advantage in the series’ history may come into play in any order and without warning”.
Jeff Probst explained the concept during the Survivor 50 finale. “The Open Era is taking the massive uncertainty and making it permanent,” he said. “The idea is that anything that has ever happened at any time on the show can happen in any season, at any time, in any order — without any warning”.
In the Survivor 51 trailer released on September 9, Probst tells the castaways: “You are birthing a new game. The ‘Open Era’ of Survivor. Every type of advantage, every twist we’ve ever done, is in play”.
He also warns them about the chaotic nature of the season. “Chaos can be opportunity,” Probst says. “Opportunity can create chaos. I could say more. But I don’t want to spoil all the fun”.
The trailer also hints at a classic old-school marooning on a sailboat, similar to how players started in Survivor: Pearl Islands (Season 7). Fans can expect to see moments of confusion, excitement, and frustration as players try to adapt to a game where nothing is predictable.
Jeff Probst Returns as Host
Jeff Probst, a five-time Emmy winner, returns as host and showrunner for Survivor 51. He has been with the show since its first season in 2000 and has hosted all 51 seasons.
Probst has spoken about what makes the format so durable. “It’s a very simple format. A group is abandoned and must rely on each other while conspiring against each other,” he told PEOPLE. “But inside that little tiny box, there’s a universe of possibilities — trillions of galaxies inside that box. So I think the format is indestructible”.
He has also hinted that the Open Era could bring back returning players in the future. “Our last all-returning player season was six years ago with Winners at War,” Probst said. “I think we’ve done that. So yes, I’d say the chances are very good that you’ll see more returning players sooner rather than later”.
Survivor 51 Trailer and First Look
CBS released the official Survivor 51 trailer on September 9, 2026. The trailer shows the castaways arriving in Fiji and includes several emotional and intense moments.
Mental health counselor Eric Macksoud is shown becoming emotional after catching a fish with a spear. “I caught a fish with a spear. I didn’t know I could do that,” he says in the clip.
Sharonda Cox, an OBGYN resident, is shown saying, “It’s game time. It’s time to work,” before celebrating with other castaways.
The trailer ends with a message telling viewers to “expect everything” and “predict nothing”.
