The full trailer for The Diplomat Season 4 has arrived, and it shows Keri Russell‘s Kate Wyler facing the most dangerous crisis of her career. Netflix released the official trailer on September 15, 2026, confirming that all eight episodes of the political thriller will premiere globally on October 15, 2026. The new season picks up directly after the Season 3 finale, where Kate discovered that her husband, Vice President Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), and President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) had secretly worked together to steal a powerful Russian weapon.
The Conspiracy at the Heart of Season 4
Season 3 ended with a major reveal: Kate learned that Hal and Grace had schemed to steal a Russian nuclear weapon without informing her or their British allies. The new trailer opens with Kate confronting both of them about their actions. She questions whether the White House has crossed from risky politics into something far more dangerous.
“Your tolerance for risk to human life seems higher than it was,” Kate tells Grace in the trailer.
White House Chief of Staff Billie Appiah (Nana Mensah) offers a chilling response when Kate points out that the US has carried out a covert military operation in an ally’s territory. Kate says, “It’s over the line.” Billie’s answer: “The line moves.”

“This season is built on the foursome that is Kate, Hal, Grace, and Todd,” Cahn told Netflix’s Tudum. “They’re two couples strapped together in one car on a crumbling roller coaster. Each of them has a professional, public role that’s upending their ability to function as a married person. And there’s a change-partners thing that happens, where the growing bond between Grace and Hal creates a not-so-functional alliance between Kate and Todd.”
The trailer shows Kate telling Hal, “I’m not trying to get out of the marriage, I’m trying to get back in.” She also warns that “the fights are gonna be spicy.”
Bradley Whitford returns as First Gentleman Todd Penn, who becomes an unexpected ally for Kate. The two form an uneasy partnership to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from destabilizing power both at home and abroad.
