Boruto: Two Blue Vortex returned after a two-month break with Chapter 37, and it delivered major developments that could reshape the series. The chapter, released on September 17, 2026, for international readers and September 18, 2026, in Japan through Shueisha’s V-Jump, picks up right after Sarada Uchiha’s kidnapping by Code. Kashin Koji reveals a terrifying vision where Momoshiki takes over Boruto’s body, while Sarada executes a clever plan that gives Boruto a fighting chance to find her.
Koji Sees a Future Where Momoshiki Returns
The biggest revelation in Chapter 37 comes from Kashin Koji’s most significant Prescience vision yet. Koji explains that he saw a future where Boruto Uzumaki gets taken over by Momoshiki once again, and the aftermath was catastrophic.
“I saw a future where Momoshiki takes over Boruto’s body. The aftermath was completely disastrous. This development wasn’t in any of the previous visions. We have to prevent it at all costs.”
The trigger for this dangerous transformation is Sarada’s kidnapping. Boruto’s emotional reaction to losing her could become the very thing that allows Momoshiki to emerge. Koji understands that Momoshiki can hear Boruto’s thoughts, which means any voice that reaches Boruto also reaches the Otsutsuki inside him.
This explains why Koji asks Inojin to cut off the telepathic communication when Boruto desperately asks if there’s a way to save Sarada. Koji refuses to give Boruto information about the future because sharing it could lead to disaster.
Boruto’s Emotional Weakness Becomes a Threat
Boruto’s reaction to Sarada’s capture does not escape Momoshiki’s notice. The chapter shows Boruto pushing hard for a way to reach Sarada, and that desperation could be exactly what Momoshiki needs.
This turns one of Boruto’s closest relationships into a potential liability. The usually composed shinobi loses his cool, and Koji’s vision confirms that Boruto’s attempt to save Sarada could become one of the factors that allows Momoshiki to emerge again.
Sarada’s Earring Plan Explained
Boruto’s original plan involved having Sarada hold marked metal objects that would act as chakra waypoints for his Flying Raijin Jutsu. But Code figured out the scheme and removed those markers before taking Sarada through his Claw Marks.
Sarada thought ahead, though. She used her Ohirume ability to yank her right Uchiha clan insignia earring from her ear and leave it behind in Konoha. The gravitational pull from her Mangekyo Sharingan allowed her to control exactly which item she wanted to pull away, and she chose her earring as a breadcrumb for Boruto.
The wound from tearing out the earring was clearly visible, showing just how far Sarada was willing to go for the mission. Her belief that Boruto would find her mirrors the trust between Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki, who swapped strands of hair with chakra-marked items.
Boruto can now attempt to teleport by sensing the chakra of other individuals, which represents a major evolution of his Flying Raijin Jutsu. This makes him the closest successor to Minato’s legendary speed technique.
Shikamaru Faces Removal as Hokage
The chapter also pushes Shikamaru Nara’s Hokage crisis to a breaking point. Kobu, who works directly for the Daimyo of the Land of Fire, returns with new testimony that supports removing Shikamaru from his position.
Nishi, a sensor ninja who previously monitored Boruto and Kawaki, provides this new information. Nishi was involved in the story years ago, working directly with Shikamaru during Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 39.
“Abetting a traitor is a serious crime. It’d be no different for the accomplices, but for now, as the leader, the Hokage must be held accountable right away. I’ve already submitted a report to Lord Daimyo, so it is only a matter of time before we receive his approval to relieve Shikamaru Nara as the Hokage.”
This development stems from Shikamaru secretly helping Boruto, which Kobu has been investigating since Chapter 36. Konoha is now looking at electing a new Hokage, opening the door for a major leadership change.
