Marvel has brought back Avengers: Endgame to theaters under a new title, Avengers: Endgame Encore, with four new scenes that add almost five minutes of footage. The re-release arrived in theaters worldwide on September 25, 2026, and the new material connects directly to Avengers: Doomsday, which releases on December 18, 2026. The new scenes were shot during the production of Doomsday and feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Anthony Russo has said these scenes are designed to bridge the two Avengers films. He also called the new version “required viewing” for anyone following the story into Doomsday.
Steve and Peggy’s Dance Gets Interrupted by Loki
The original Endgame ended with Chris Evans‘ Steve Rogers going back in time to live with Hayley Atwell‘s Peggy Carter. They shared a dance, and the movie cut to black. Endgame Encore changes this. The dance continues, and then someone knocks on the door. Peggy opens it and finds Loki standing there in his TVA uniform. He tells her, “I believe I can help you. Both of you”.
This Loki is not the same one Steve fought in 2012. This is the variant who escaped with the Tesseract, got captured by the Time Variance Authority, and later became the God of Stories holding the multiverse together. The scene suggests that Steve’s time travel created an unstable branch in the multiverse, and Loki has come to address it.
Anthony Russo spoke about this moment at a New York screening. He said:
“We play one beat past where Steve Rogers’ story ended with Peggy Carter, and in that moment, that’s where Doomsday is born”.
The TVA Sees the Multiverse Falling Apart
Another new scene takes place inside the Time Variance Authority. Mobius (Owen Wilson), Casey (Eugene Cordero), Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan), and Miss Minutes (Tara Strong) detect two Earths on a collision course. This is what they call an incursion. The two worlds start firing on each other. More alternate worlds begin colliding and getting destroyed. The TVA realizes the entire multiverse is collapsing.
The identity of the two colliding Earths is not confirmed in the scene. Reports point to the Fox X-Men universe and the main MCU Earth as the most likely candidates. This fits with what has already been shown in Doomsday trailers, where characters like Professor Xavier, Magneto, and Cyclops from Fox’s X-Men films cross into the MCU.
Doctor Doom Comes for Bruce Banner
One new scene plays during the credits. Bruce Banner is living alone in an underground military bunker, two miles below the surface. He records a video log explaining that he is working on a serum to suppress his Hulk transformations. He says no one can get into the bunker to disturb him.
That plan does not last. Doctor Doom breaks in. His voice is heard saying, “I have come to collect you, Doctor Banner”. The scene ends with Banner transforming into the Hulk once more, and Latverian green magic is seen on the bunker floor.
This scene confirms that Mark Ruffalo will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. It also raises questions about whether Doom has captured or enslaved the Hulk. Some fans have pointed to the possibility of Maestro, a villainous version of Hulk from the comics who sometimes works with Doom.
Doctor Doom Works on His Mask
The final new scene shows Doctor Doom himself. He is working on his metal mask. The scene connects to earlier Doomsday teasers where Doom is shown mourning his wife and child. Fans have theorized that Steve Rogers’ actions in the past somehow led to the destruction of Doom’s world, setting him on a path of revenge.
Doom believes the Avengers are living “stolen lives,” according to Doomsday teasers. This scene reinforces that idea. It also sets up the emotional stakes for the villain, who is played by Robert Downey Jr. — the same actor who played Tony Stark for over a decade.
How Much New Footage You Get Depends on Where You Watch
Not every Endgame Encore screening includes all the new content. Infinity Vision certified showings have an additional 6 minutes and 17 seconds of footage. Regular screenings only include about 2 minutes and 6 seconds of extra material. There are only 75 Infinity Vision screens in the United States and 300 internationally. Formats like ScreenX, XD, and Dolby are included in the Infinity Vision lineup.
All the new scenes appear at the end of the film, so viewers have to watch the entire movie to see them. The rest of the film is the same as the 2019 release, apart from a brief new introduction by Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr..
