CIA returned for its second season on CBS with an episode that changed everything for Bill Goodman. The premiere, titled “The Deep,” aired on Monday, October 5, 2026, and delivered a case involving corrupt DEA agents, a deadly cartel fixer, and a personal revelation that will drive the entire season forward. Bill’s father, a man he thought was just an Army veteran, was actually a CIA officer with a dark past.
The Cartel Fixer Case That Started It All
The episode opened with a murder on a yacht. Kip Paul, a former DEA agent, was killed by a professional assassin who stole money from his safe and dumped his body into the water. The killer’s identity was unknown at this point, but the stolen cash hinted that this was not a random act.
Nikki Reynard, the Deputy Chief of Station, alerted the team that Eduardo “Lalo” Cabrella, a cartel fixer for the Ortega cartel, had arrived in New York. Lalo was wanted in multiple countries and his presence in the city immediately raised alarms.
Colin Glass and Bill Goodman tracked Lalo to the home of Mitch Selby, a retired Navy SEAL. They found Lalo standing over Selby’s dead body. Lalo insisted he did not kill Selby, and the evidence backed him up. Selby was living far beyond his means, and the money in his safe was gone.
The Corrupt DEA Agents and the Stolen Cartel Money
Nikki reached out to Deborah from the DEA, who revealed a six-year-old secret. Selby, Kip Paul, and several other agents had raided one of Lalo’s safe houses before the DEA’s official operation. The house was supposed to be full of money, but the DEA found nothing. Deborah believed the agents stole the cash and that Lalo was back for revenge.
The investigation led the team to Keith Truman, another former agent who was still working undercover. Truman was arrested in a staged raid so the team could talk to him without blowing his cover. He confirmed that his friends had retired and started living large, which he found suspicious.
Gina Gosian, the team’s analyst, identified the assassin as Felix Vincente, a killer who had taken out at least three CIA operatives. No one had ever seen his face, and the agency believed he was dead.
Bill Goodman’s Father and the Tbilisi Ticket
The episode’s most important storyline unfolded alongside the cartel case. Bill was still grieving his father’s death, which had happened three weeks before the premiere. He returned to work, but his focus was clearly off. Colin noticed and tried to reach out, even surprising Bill in the back of his car after Bill ignored his calls and texts.
While going through his father’s belongings, Bill found a plane ticket to Tbilisi, Georgia, dated 1998. His mother assumed his father had been doing consulting work after leaving the Army, but something about the ticket bothered Bill. He mentioned it to Colin, who downplayed it to his face but then went to Nikki and asked for access to a classified operation called Operation Panama.
Nikki called the operation “a dark stain on us all,” but agreed to help. Colin brought Bill in and showed him what he had found: Bill’s father was CIA.
“We’re going to get to the bottom of this mystery by the end of episode 10. And because it’s a TV show and people are smart, I can tease that that assassin who gets away at the end of the season premiere also connects with Bill’s dad.” — Mike Weiss, showrunner of CIA
The Assassin Felix Vincente and His Connection to Bill’s Father
The episode ended with Felix Vincente escaping after a confrontation on a bridge. Bill chased him, but Felix jumped into the water and disappeared. Nikki later confirmed that Felix was alive and would become a major problem for the CIA.
Showrunner Mike Weiss confirmed that Felix had a professional relationship with Bill’s father back when he was a CIA intelligence officer. Bill’s father did “really dark things” on behalf of the agency overseas, and the only way Bill can learn the truth is by finding and capturing Felix.
The Prison Break Bombshell and the Final Scene
After the bridge confrontation, Colin called Bill to check out a garage. They found a bomb and barely escaped before it exploded. Surveillance footage later showed Keith Truman entering the garage both the day before and weeks earlier, confirming that Truman was corrupt from the start.
The episode’s final scene brought the personal and professional threads together. Colin told Bill the truth about his father and promised they would figure it out together. The reveal re-established the tense dynamic between the two partners from Season 1 while setting Bill on a path that will force him to question everything he believed about his family.

Character Arcs and What Changed in the Premiere
Bill Goodman entered Season 2 as a man in mourning. His grief made him less patient with the formalities of his job, and he occasionally zoned out during critical moments. The news about his father added a second layer of loss. He now has to grieve for a man he did not fully understand.
“His dad was his hero. He’s not ready to admit just how much it’s affecting him. But then … by the end of the episode, we will discover that his father was not the man that he appeared to be. And so we’re going to really be able to shake Bill up, and he’s kind of going to grieve a second time.” — Mike Weiss on Bill’s journey
Colin Glass took on a supporting role in the premiere, but his actions drove the episode’s biggest reveal. He investigated Bill’s father’s past without being asked, showing that their partnership has grown even if the trust between them remains complicated.
Nikki Reynard continued as the team’s anchor, balancing operational decisions with the personal crises of her agents. Her willingness to grant Colin access to Operation Panama shows she understands that some truths matter more than protocol.
