Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 4, titled “Lost and Found,” arrived on Apple TV on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, and delivered the season’s most devastating blow yet. JK Coe, the quiet, hoodie-wearing agent played by Tom Brooke, died in a brutal bathroom knife fight against the Russian assassin Jim. Moments later, Diana Taverner agreed to a secret deal that handed Sid Baker over to the same killers hunting Slough House. The episode ended with Sid kidnapped at gunpoint, River powerless to stop it and the season’s central conspiracy finally taking shape.

JK Coe’s Final Fight Against the Russian Assassin

JK Coe spotted the assassin Jim walking into a motorway service station bathroom and followed him inside. Coe, who had been the only member of the group to notice the killers were tailing them, sat down at the sinks and struck up a quiet conversation.

“You FSB?” Coe asked. “GRU,” Jim replied. “Military? Good pension then,” Coe said. “If you live that long,” Jim shot back. Coe then told him, “I think you’ve got the wrong list.” — dialogue from the episode, as reported by Town & Country.

Coe stood up with his push knife drawn. Jim asked if it was a push knife. Coe smiled and said “Yep.” Those were his last words. The fight happened off-screen, and by the time River Cartwright reached the bathroom, it was too late. Coe was dead.

Tom Brooke told Town & Country that he pushed to include details from Mick Herron’s novel Joe Country, where Coe also dies.

“It was lovely to leave. Actually, I thought I was all right about it until I picked up Clown Town at the airport and I read two pages of it. I wouldn’t want to say I burst into tears, but I was like, ‘I can’t read this. I cannot engage with this world again because I’m not part of it.’ And then I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I’m not all right about it.’” — Tom Brooke told Town & Country.

Coe joined the show in Season 4 and became a fan favorite for his quiet, unsettling presence. He revealed in Season 5 that he had once been handcuffed and tied to a chair for 72 hours before arriving at Slough House. He also worked in behavioral analysis and psychological evaluation earlier in his career.

Diana Taverner’s Deal With the GRU

Diana Taverner spent Episode 4 cornered from every direction. Damien Cantor visited her home and warned her about an incoming phone call she could not refuse. Oliver Nash, Chairman of the Limitations Committee, confronted her about her recent television interview and revealed that his investigation connected the deaths of Slough House agents to the death of a woman tied to Russian intelligence. Nash told Diana the Committee would review the matter, putting her job at risk.

The phone call came from Vassily Rasnakov, a senior GRU officer. Vassily believed Sid Baker was responsible for the death of a woman connected to Russian intelligence, a killing that took place in Kazan, Russia, and was made to look like a botched robbery. Vassily offered Diana a deal: hand over Sid, and his assassins would stop killing Slough House agents.

Diana agreed. She picked up the phone and accepted the terms. River had warned Sid not to trust Diana, but Sid refused to listen. She walked into a bowling alley to use a payphone and call Diana, and the assassins were waiting.

“River turns out to be right for once as Sid is kidnapped at gunpoint by Jim and Jane at the end of the episode.” — IGN noted in its review.

Olivia Cooke returned as Sid Baker in Season 6 after her character was presumed dead in Season 1. Sid spent the early episodes trying to reach Diana, convinced that the First Desk was the only person who could help. That trust led her straight into Russian hands.

Jackson Lamb Meets Frank Harkness at Shake Shack

Jackson Lamb used Reece Nesmith as bait to draw out Frank Harkness. Reece called Damien Cantor and demanded £100,000 to stay quiet about his father’s murder. Damien handed the problem to Frank, who agreed to meet Lamb at a Shake Shack.

Lamb confronted Frank about the deaths of his agents. Frank denied any involvement. The meeting fell apart when Reece escaped from Flyte’s house and showed up at the restaurant. Frank’s men grabbed the boy, and Lamb offered to hand Reece over in exchange for information. Lamb then created a public disturbance, grabbed Reece and escaped in Flyte’s car.

“Frank Harkness and Jackson Lamb (Hugo Weaving and Gary Oldman, finally getting some meaty shared screentime) facing off in the Shake Shack” — IGN highlighted as one of the episode’s standout moments.

Damien Cantor’s Role in the Slough House Killings

Episode 4 clarified Damien Cantor’s connection to the assassinations. Damien wanted a contract from the Russians and had the dead Dog Andy Nesmith steal the Slough House file from the Park to prove his value. Damien was not the one who ordered the killings. He contracted Frank Harkness as cleanup to cover the theft.

IGN reported that Damien handed the list of Slough House names to his Russian contact, who passed it to the GRU. The GRU used the list to retaliate against Diana Taverner for an MI5 assassination in Kazan, Russia. That assassination was made to look like a botched robbery, and River believed Diana stole Sid Baker’s identity to make her look responsible on paper.

Sid Baker’s Trust and the Final Kidnapping

Sid Baker spent Episode 4 convinced that contacting Diana Taverner was the solution. She and River argued about it repeatedly. Coe was the one who spotted the assassins first, and his death bought Sid and River time to escape.

The escape did not last. Jim and Jane caught up with Sid at the end of the episode and kidnapped her at gunpoint. Diana had already agreed to hand her over. River could only watch as the woman he had been trying to protect was taken by the same people who killed Coe.

Slow Horses Season 6 is based on two of Mick Herron’s novels, Joe Country and Slough House. In Joe Country, Coe also dies, though the show changed some details of how it happens.
