Mickey Haller is taking one last ride. Netflix has confirmed that The Lincoln Lawyer will end with its upcoming fifth season, bringing the fan-favorite legal drama to a close after four successful runs. The show, which many viewers have called a better version of Suits, wrapped filming on its final season in July 2026 and is expected to arrive on the streamer in early 2027. The story does not end there, though, as Netflix is already developing a spin-off centered on Cobie Smulders‘ character, Emi Finch.

Netflix Confirms Season 5 Will Be the Last

Netflix made the announcement during its 2026 Upfront presentation in May, revealing that the Manuel Garcia-Rulfo-led series would conclude with its fifth season. The final season is currently in production in Los Angeles and consists of 10 episodes. The renewal for Season 5 had actually been ordered back in January 2026, just one week before Season 4 premiered in February, but the confirmation that it would be the last chapter came later.

Co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez shared a statement about the decision to end the show on their own terms.

“All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us. From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion. And while it is, of course, bittersweet, it’s also an amazing opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and perhaps chart a new course for some of our characters into the future.”

The showrunners also expressed gratitude to the fans who have supported the series around the world, promising a finale that Mickey Haller deserves.

A Strong Run With Impressive Viewing Numbers

The Lincoln Lawyer debuted on Netflix in 2022 and quickly became one of the platform’s most reliable hits. Across its first four seasons, the series spent 29 weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 charts and pulled in more than 171 million views since 2023. Season 4 alone spent four weeks in the worldwide top 10 for English-language series, amassing 26.4 million views during that span.

The show is based on Michael Connelly‘s bestselling Mickey Haller novels and stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as the charismatic Los Angeles defense attorney who runs his practice from the back seat of his Lincoln Navigator. The cast also includes Becki Newton as Lorna Crane, Jazz Raycole as Izzy Letts, and Angus Sampson as Cisco Wojciechowski.

Final Season Plot and New Cast Members

Season 5 will adapt Resurrection Walk, the seventh book in Connelly’s series. The story picks up with Mickey’s world being turned upside down when Emi Finch (Smulders), the half-sister he never knew existed, comes to him with a plea to help free a wrongfully convicted woman. Mickey takes on a challenging habeas petition to overturn a six-year-old murder conviction, but the deeper he digs, the more dangerous the forces against him become.

Cobie Smulders has been promoted to series regular for the final season after making her debut in the Season 4 finale. Several new recurring guest stars are also joining the cast, including Diane Guerrero as Natalia, Corbin Bernsen as Richard Finch, Chris Diamantopoulos as Frank Silver, Patty Guggenheim as Allison Finch, Richard Cabral as Benny Perez, Steve Howey as Brian Cunningham, Teresa Maria as Tina Perez, and Iker Garcia as Rafa Wagner.

Additional guest stars for the final season include Amy Aquino as Judge Olivia Alcott, Angela Trimbur as Felicia, Elpidia Carillo as Muriel Perez, Nate Corddry as Jimmy Finch, Tricia Helfer as Brooke Miller, and Keir O’Donnell as DDA Lucas Peralta.

Why Fans Compare It to Suits

The comparison between The Lincoln Lawyer and Suits has followed the show since its debut. Both are legal dramas with charismatic leads, polished courtroom scenes, and a mix of case-of-the-week stories with ongoing personal arcs. Suits built its reputation around Harvey Specter and Mike Ross, while The Lincoln Lawyer centers on Mickey Haller and his team at Haller and Associates.

Viewing figures tell a similar story. Suits became a streaming phenomenon after arriving on Netflix in 2023, generating 57.7 billion viewing minutes that year across Netflix and Peacock. The Lincoln Lawyer has quietly built its own loyal audience, with fans often describing it as a grittier, more street-smart take on the legal drama format.

Fan Reaction to the Cancellation

News of the show’s ending did not sit well with many viewers. On Reddit and social media, fans expressed frustration that a consistently performing show was being wrapped up while other titles get extended runs.

“The Lincoln Lawyer ending MAKES NO SENSE. They’ll keep milking something like Stranger Things for years, but a real solid show with loyal viewers gets wrapped up early? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!”

Another fan simply wrote, “Awful decision. It’s the best show on Netflix.”

Some viewers were also disappointed that not all of Connelly’s Mickey Haller books will be adapted. The series has covered several novels across its four seasons, but the author has written many more Mickey Haller stories beyond Resurrection Walk.

Emi Finch Spin-Off in Development

The end of The Lincoln Lawyer does not mean the end of the story universe. Netflix is developing a spin-off series centered on Cobie Smulders‘ character, Emi Finch. The project is in early development, with executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez, and Matthew J. Lieberman writing the script. A+E Studios is producing.

Cobie Smulders, known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky on How I Met Your Mother, joined The Lincoln Lawyer in Season 4 as Mickey’s long-lost half-sister. Her character made an immediate impact, and the spin-off will explore her story further.
