Paul Anderson is back in the public eye. The Peaky Blinders actor, best known for playing Arthur Shelby across all six seasons of the hit BBC and Netflix series, has made several notable public appearances in 2026 after a long period away from the spotlight. His return has sparked a wave of support from fans worldwide.
Anderson’s most recent major appearance came at Comic Con Holland 2026, where he attended both days for autograph sessions and photo shoots with fans. He also appeared at Comic Con Paris in April 2026, greeting fans with a bold new look, including bleached blonde hair and cropped trousers that showed scars on his legs. In August 2026, he was a headline guest at Comic Con Astana in Kazakhstan, where he drew big crowds.
Emotional Fan Reactions Pour In Across Social Media
Support for Anderson has been building steadily since he began stepping out at public events. Fans have flooded his Instagram posts with praise and affection, especially after he shared a message about his absence from the Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man.
When Anderson posted a tribute to his Peaky Blinders days in March 2026, the comment section filled with messages from longtime viewers. Fans wrote things like “I just finished watching The Immortal Man. It’s just not the same without you.” Another fan commented, “Simply not the same without you. To miss would be an understatement.” Even boxing star Tyson Fury left a comment that read: “True Blinder!”
At Comic Con Paris, the warmth was just as visible in person. Fans lined up for photos and autographs, and many shared their excitement online. The actor appeared relaxed on stage, at one point lying back on a sofa during his panel.
A Bold New Look at Comic Con Paris
Anderson’s appearance at Comic Con Paris in April 2026 made headlines for more than just his return. The 48-year-old actor showed up with a completely different look from the sharp-suited Arthur Shelby fans remember. He had bleached blonde hair in a bowl cut, wore mustard-yellow socks tucked into white sneakers, and beige cropped trousers that revealed scarring and cuts on his lower legs.
The change was a sharp contrast to the brown-haired, flat-cap-wearing Birmingham gangster he played on screen for nearly a decade. Fans noticed the difference right away, with many commenting on how different he looked from his on-screen persona.
What Happened to Arthur Shelby in The Immortal Man
Anderson did not appear in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, the Netflix film that arrived in March 2026. His character, Arthur Shelby, was written out of the story. In the film, it is revealed that Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) strangled his opium-addicted brother Arthur off-screen.
Series creator Steven Knight explained the decision in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“The story determines the cast, and the story was set,” Knight said. “I knew that Tommy needed to have done something that he couldn’t forgive himself for. Therefore, that’s why the plot went in that particular direction.”
Knight also praised Anderson’s acting ability, calling him “a fantastic actor.”
Anderson himself spoke about the decision with LADbible and took it in stride.
“Well, what can you do eh? It is how it is,” Anderson said. “I thought I’d just leave them to it. Fans are in for a surprise, they really are. I think it’s great. I mean, it’s such a powerful thing to do.”
He also admitted he was surprised by how much fans cared about him. “I weren’t very nice to people in it,” he said, referring to Arthur’s violent nature. “But people loved me.”
New Movie Role: Field Marshal Montgomery in Fortitude
Anderson has confirmed his next acting role in the World War II espionage film Fortitude. He will play Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, the famous British military commander. The film is directed by Simon West and is based on a true story about British intelligence operatives who used deception tactics to fool the Nazis during the war.
The cast includes Nicolas Cage, Matthew Goode, Ed Skrein, Alice Eve, Michael Sheen, Ben Kingsley and Jordi Mollà. Anderson shared the news on Instagram with a photo of himself in a soldier costume, fist raised in the air.
He captioned the post: “Because the difference between chaos and control… is knowing exactly what you’re fighting for. ‘Every soldier must know… how his battle fits the bigger picture.’ – Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery.”
Filming for Fortitude began in September 2025. A release date has not been confirmed yet.
A Chat About Astana and the Fans Who Stood By Him
At Comic Con Astana in August 2026, Anderson spoke warmly about his experience in Kazakhstan. He said the wide roads and kind people stood out during his visit. He told reporters that the reception from fans in Astana was the most welcome and comfortable he had felt at any Comic Con event.
“This was the best Comic Con I have ever attended,” Anderson said.
He also noted that people in Kazakhstan were polite and did not swear, which was a big difference from the South London environment he grew up in.
Recent Sighting in London
Anderson was spotted in London in October 2026 running errands on an electric bike and counting cash on the street. He wore a sage-green bomber jacket, cropped trousers and orange socks with Vans trainers. The sighting came after his absence from The Immortal Man and followed several years of personal and legal struggles.
In March 2025, Anderson was convicted at Bexley Magistrates Court for drug possession and driving without insurance. He has since been working to rebuild his career, taking on paid appearances at events and sending personalised messages to fans.

The Road Back to Acting
Anderson has been open about his struggles. In a video message shared online, he encouraged others facing hard times to keep going.
“Just like you, search inside. Find it for yourself, overcome the struggles, the tribulations, the pain that you are feeling. There is no story without struggle,” he said. “Take it from me: I have struggled and I struggle today, the same way you do.”
Fans have responded to his honesty with messages of support. Anderson also appeared at Comic Con Holland 2026 in March, where he met fans for autographs and photos across both days of the event.
