General Hospital fans are watching a legal storm build in Port Charles. Congresswoman Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) has decided to sue journalist Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) for libel after Lulu published an article accusing Willow of drugging Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) for months. The story, printed in The Invader, sent shockwaves through the town when it revealed that Drew’s “stroke” was actually a paralytic drug administered without his knowledge. Willow took Harrison Chase’s (Josh Swickard) advice and slapped Lulu with a lawsuit. Here are eight reasons why that decision could backfire in a big way.
Lulu Already Has the Evidence
Lulu did not run the story on a whim. She recorded her interview with Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) on her phone. She then spoke with Drew directly and consulted Dr. Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) and Nurse Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst). From them, she learned that two patients—Drew and Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna)—both suffered similar strokes in Willow’s house and both recovered. That pattern was too strange to ignore. Lulu connected the dots before publishing a single word.
A Lawsuit Opens the Door to Discovery
The biggest risk for Willow is not the courtroom itself. It is what happens before the trial. Discovery allows Lulu’s legal team to demand documents, records, and testimony under oath. If Willow sues for libel, the entire case becomes about whether she actually drugged Drew. Truth is a complete defense against libel. Lulu’s side can demand the proof, and Willow would have to answer questions she has spent months avoiding.
Willow Already Admitted the Truth to Britt
Willow confessed to Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) that she had drugged Drew. She told Britt she felt trapped after her acquittal, when Drew continued to smother her. Britt advised Willow to let the situation die down and not draw more attention to it. Chase ignored that advice and pushed for the lawsuit instead. Willow knows she is guilty. A court case would bring everything into the light, including the fact that she also shot Drew.
Lulu’s Reporting Record Is Solid
Lulu Spencer is not a gossip columnist. She is an investigative journalist and the daughter of Luke and Laura Spencer. As Dante Falconeri openly admitted, Lulu’s readers believe in the authenticity of her claims. If Willow tries to paint the story as fake news, Lulu’s reputation and track record stand against her. That credibility gap is hard to overcome in the court of public opinion.

Public Opinion Is Not on Willow’s Side
Soap fans have watched Willow’s story unfold for months. Many remember that she shot Drew in the back and faced no consequences. Fan reaction to the lawsuit news has been largely skeptical. One message board commenter wrote that Willow “can’t help herself letting Chase save her” and that the lawsuit “will force Lulu or someone to dig for the truth.” Another fan predicted this is “the beginning of Willow’s downfall.”
Chase’s Blind Support Is Making Things Worse
Harrison Chase has destroyed his marriage to Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) because of his loyalty to Willow. He accused Brook Lynn and the Quartermaine family of fabricating the story. He is now pushing Willow to sue for libel, convinced she is innocent. The problem is that Chase does not know the full truth. His plan to clear Willow’s name is exactly what could finally expose her crimes.
Sidwell’s Denial Does Not Help Willow
Sidwell has publicly claimed that everything he told Lulu during their interview was a lie. That denial might sound helpful to Willow at first. But very few people trust a mobster’s word. Britt pointed out that Sidwell’s statements carry little weight. If Willow’s case rests on Sidwell being unreliable, she is building her defense on shaky ground. Meanwhile, the medical evidence and Lulu’s recording remain.
Willow’s Political Career Is on the Line
Willow is a sitting congresswoman. A libel trial would put her private actions under a public microscope. If the truth comes out, she could lose her seat and face criminal charges. The lawsuit does not just risk legal defeat. It risks everything she has built since being elected. Britt warned her that a court case would gather far too much attention. Chase did not listen.
