CIA Season 2 Episode 4, titled “Black Tie Optional,” aired on CBS on Monday, October 26, 2026. The episode moved the Dick Wolf procedural from its usual covert rooms and safe houses into a formal university fundraiser, where Tom Ellis’s Colin Glass posed as a psychiatrist’s date and Nick Gehlfuss’s Bill Goodman dug into files about his late father that were never meant to see daylight. The case of the week closed with a dead investor, a disrupted North Korean plot, and a final reveal that tied an international assassin directly to Bill’s family.
The Case That Sent Colin Glass to a Black-Tie Gala
The hour began with a financial threat that looked ordinary on the surface. Allen Perry, a high-profile investor who moved money for oligarchs, had been spending unusual amounts of time with North Korean contacts. The station needed eyes on him, and Colin Glass took the assignment.
Colin built a cover as a psychiatrist and started seeing Meghan, Perry’s chief operating officer. Meghan was recently divorced and responded to the attention, which gave Colin a way into Perry’s inner circle. She shared enough about her boss’s travel and associates for the team to map his next move. That move pointed to a school fundraiser gala at a university, the kind of black-tie event where guests write checks and pose for photos while serious intelligence work happens in the background.
Meghan agreed to bring Colin as her date. He arrived in a tuxedo and glasses, a low-key disguise that let him move through the room without drawing the wrong kind of notice. Bill Goodman worked the edges of the event with a press pass, posing as a journalist. Geoffrey Arend’s character guided the pair over comms during the assignment.
Why the Gala Was More Than a Fundraiser
The event was not chosen at random. Perry needed access to a specific computer on the university campus. That machine held a paper by Sam Freeman on satellite hacking. Once the team understood that detail, the fundraiser stopped being a social obligation and became the center of an espionage operation.
Meghan planted a bug on Perry during the gala. North Korean agents spotted the device almost immediately. They killed Perry and a guard, then walked into the ballroom with weapons drawn, demanding to know who had planted it. The polished fundraiser turned into a lockdown within minutes.
How Colin Glass Stopped the North Korean Plot
The danger became clearer as the night went on. Intelligence showed that North Korean agents were stationed near the border with South Korea under the guise of a military exercise. Their real plan was to use Freeman’s satellite hacking paper to knock out American monitoring, creating a window to move on South Korea without immediate detection.
Colin fired a shot to create a diversion, setting the spies against one another long enough for the team to track their movements. The team disabled the cell jammer that had been blocking their signal and stopped the immediate operation before the agents could carry out the satellite hack.
The mission closed, but not cleanly. Perry was dead. Meghan was tied to a live conspiracy. She later realized she still cared about her ex-husband and stepped back from the undercover relationship.
Bill Goodman’s Search Through His Father’s Redacted Files
While the gala operation ran, Bill Goodman was working a quieter but more personal investigation. Files from his father’s CIA past had surfaced, and most of the information inside them was redacted. Bill tracked down his father’s former partner, hoping for answers.
The partner cautioned him against digging too deeply. The warning came with a pointed question about whether Bill would want his own children to learn about his past mistakes. The conversation did not close the door on Bill’s search, but it made clear that the truth about Robert Goodman carried weight beyond a single family.
The Final Reveal That Tied an Assassin to Bill’s Father
The episode’s closing scene delivered the detail that reshapes Bill’s investigation. Bill learned that Felix Vincente, an international assassin, was once his father’s asset. That connection likely explains why so many of Robert Goodman’s records were redacted in the first place.
The reveal does not resolve Bill’s questions. It gives him a name and a reason to keep pulling at the thread, while also confirming that his father’s work inside the agency involved people the family never knew about.
