Nayanthara has shared a new note about Mookuthi Amman 2, describing the film as one that stays close to her heart long after the cameras stopped rolling. The actor posted the message on Instagram on October 28, 2026, days before the film arrives in theatres for Diwali. In the note, she thanked director Sundar C and producer Ishari K Ganesh by name and also sent warm words to her co-stars.
The timing of the note has put the spotlight back on the sequel, which is one of the biggest Tamil releases of the festive season. Mookuthi Amman 2 is set to open in cinemas on November 6, 2026, in five languages, and has already completed its censorship formalities.
Nayanthara’s Note Thanks Sundar C and Ishari K Ganesh
The note begins with a simple line about the film’s place in her career. Nayanthara wrote that some films remain with an actor long after filming ends, and for her, Mookuthi Amman 2 is one of them.
“Some films stay close to your heart long after the cameras stop rolling. For me, Mookuthi Amman 2 is one such film. To my director, Sundar C Sir, thank you for bringing your vision, warmth and passion to this film. Working with you has been a joy. Thank you for the care you put into every moment and for making this journey so memorable. I will be forever grateful to you for this film.”
She then addressed the producer directly, crediting him for his belief in the project.
“To my producer, Ishari K Ganesh Sir, thank you for believing in this film and for supporting us. Having a producer who believes in a story so wholeheartedly makes every step of the journey more meaningful.”
The message was shared on Instagram and was picked up by multiple entertainment outlets on the same day. The note does not mention any specific incident from the shoot, and it does not reveal plot details. It focuses on the people who worked on the film and on Nayanthara’s personal connection to the project.
Kind Words for Regina Cassandra, Khushbu Sundar and Sneha
Nayanthara also used the note to acknowledge her co-stars. She addressed Regina Cassandra, who plays the antagonist in the film, and wished her well.
“Regena, it was lovely sharing this journey with you. Wishing you all the love and success in everything that lies ahead.”
She then wrote about Khushbu Sundar and Sneha, both of whom are part of the film’s cast.
“Khushbu Ma’am and Sneha Ma’am, being part of this film with both of you is something I’ll cherish. Sending you both the biggest hugs and all my love.”
The note ends with a line about the full cast and crew and a short devotional sign-off.
“I feel fortunate to have shared this journey with such a wonderful cast and crew. And now, I can’t wait for all of you to experience the world we’ve created together.”
Nayanthara signed off with “OM SHAKTHI”, a phrase that fits the film’s devotional theme.
Mookuthi Amman 2 Release Date and Certification Details
Mookuthi Amman 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on November 6, 2026, during the Diwali festive period. The film will arrive in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam. The Telugu version is titled Maha Shakthi.
The sequel has received a UA 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. Its runtime is 2 hours and 25 minutes, which is about 10 minutes longer than the 2020 original. The certification was announced on October 28, 2026, the same day Nayanthara’s note appeared online.
Diwali in 2026 falls on November 8, and the film’s release is timed to the five-day festival period that begins on November 6. The makers announced the release date in September with a teaser titled Rise of Mahasakthi. At the time, the production house wrote on social media that the film would release in five languages on November 6, 2026.
Cast, Story and Two Timelines
Nayanthara returns as the titular goddess and also appears in a second role as a police officer. The trailer shows two contrasting characters, one divine and one ordinary, caught in a conflict that connects the past and the present.
Regina Cassandra plays the main antagonist. Duniya Vijay also appears in an antagonistic role. The supporting cast includes Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Maina Nandhini, Garuda Ram, Abhinaya, Shruthy S, Singampuli, Khushbu Sundar and Sneha.
The story moves across two timelines. A period setting shows a queen praying to the goddess and giving her life to save a young prince from invading enemies. The present-day track follows a timid police officer whose life becomes tied to a larger supernatural battle. The goddess returns to protect the child, and a new evil appears in the form of a mysterious woman and other mythical figures.
The makers have described Maha Shakthi as a standalone story that begins a new franchise, even though the Tamil version carries the Mookuthi Amman 2 title. The 2020 original was a devotional comedy directed by RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan, and it released directly on streaming during the pandemic. The sequel is a theatrical project built on a much larger scale.
Production Scale and Streaming Partners
Mookuthi Amman 2 is produced by Ishari K Ganesh under Vels Film International. Reports have placed the production budget above ₹100 crore, making it one of the most expensive films in Sundar C’s filmography.
The distribution plan covers multiple regions. Red Giant Movies handles Tamil Nadu theatrical rights, Bhavana Release has the Kerala rights, and Ayngaran and Big Films are associated with overseas distribution. JioHotstar is the post-theatrical streaming partner, and five television channels have secured satellite rights for the dubbed versions.
The music is composed by Hiphop Tamizha Adhi, a regular collaborator of Sundar C. The album was scheduled to release on October 28, 2026, at 6 PM across streaming platforms. The film’s cinematography is by Gopi Amarnath.
