Jerry Fort, a 25-year-old content creator known online as Void Only, died on October 29, 2026, after complications from a lung transplant. He had spent months fighting to stay alive long enough to play Grand Theft Auto VI, the game he had waited 13 years to see. The title is set to launch on November 19, 2026, just 21 days after his death. A fundraiser started by his mother raised more than $96,000 from thousands of donors around the world. The gaming community is now sharing tributes and asking Rockstar Games to honor him inside the game.

Who Was Jerry Fort, the Gamer Known as Void Only?

Jerry Fort built a following on TikTok under the name Void Only. He had been living with interstitial lung disease since he was 17 years old. The condition slowly damaged his lungs over eight years and eventually left him needing a transplant.

Before his health declined, Fort posted gaming and music content. He spent the last four years talking about games like Warframe, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Hitman, and GTA 6. Music was another passion. His mother said he wanted more people to hear his voice and his songs.

The illness shaped much of his adult life. At 17, he received the diagnosis. By August 2026, his lungs were failing, and doctors moved him into intensive care.

The Viral Video That Turned a Private Fight Into a Community Cause

In August 2026, Fort posted a video from his hospital bed titled “I just want to play GTA VI” . In the clip, he explained that his lungs could no longer work on their own and that he needed a transplant. He also made a joke about Rockstar’s repeated delays to the game.

The video spread quickly. Millions of people watched it, and thousands left comments rooting for him to make it to release day. Players urged Rockstar Games to let him experience the game early. The clip turned a personal medical battle into a shared mission for the GTA community.

Fort was honest about his fears. He said he had always been nervous about asking for donations because “everybody needs their money”. The response showed how many people felt connected to his story.

A $15,000 Goal That Raised More Than $96,000

Paris Fort, Jerry’s mother, set up a GoFundMe campaign called “Help My Son Reach His Lung Transplant.” The original goal was $15,000 to cover transplant costs, the family’s relocation during treatment, and recovery expenses.

Donations came in from more than 5,000 people. The campaign raised $96,237, according to ThePrint. Other outlets reported totals above $100,000 as donations continued to arrive. The exact final figure varies across reports, but every major outlet confirms the campaign far exceeded its target.

“He was so happy. He felt like his dreams were coming true, and he wanted to give back as y’all gave to him,” Paris Fort said in a video announcing her son’s death.

The money gave Fort hope. He said the support made him feel like his dreams were coming true. He planned to stream GTA VI with the community that had rallied behind him.

Transplant Surgery and a Severe Infection

Fort received a lung transplant in September 2026. The surgery was especially risky because his lungs had become attached to his chest wall, making the operation bloody and dangerous.

Early signs looked positive. His mother shared an update roughly two weeks after surgery saying he was “doing a lot better”. Then his condition turned. A severe infection developed in his lungs, causing them to fill with blood. Doctors placed him on life-support equipment, including ECMO, but his body continued to decline.

On October 28, Fort told his family he was ready to stop fighting. He died the next day, October 29, at age 25. His sister confirmed the death in a video posted to his TikTok account on November 2.

“Sadly, he didn’t make it. He’s no longer hurting. He’s no longer struggling,” his sister said in the video.

The GTA VI Release He Fought to Reach

GTA VI is scheduled to launch globally on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Digital pre-orders can start playing at midnight local time on release day. Pre-loading begins on November 12, 2026, a week before launch.

The game returns players to the fictional state of Leonida, a version of Florida that includes Vice City. It is the first major new GTA entry since GTA V arrived on September 17, 2013. The long wait included multiple delays. Rockstar first announced a 2025 release window, then moved the game to May 2026, and finally to November 19, 2026.

Pricing starts at $79.99 for the standard edition. An Ultimate Edition costs $99.99 and includes bonus digital items. A Collector’s Bundle priced at $399.99 contains physical collectibles but does not include a copy of the game. No PC version has been announced for launch.

Fort had planned to stream the game on release day. He did not live to see it arrive.

How the GTA Community Is Paying Tribute

Messages of grief and support have filled Fort’s TikTok comments and X posts since his sister shared the news. Players who never met him are promising to carry his name into Leonida on launch day.

“I’m adding Void to my gamertag in his honor when GTA releases,” one commenter wrote.

“The first cruise around Leonida is for him, and everyone else who didn’t make it. A lot of good people who were excited for not just this game, but life, taken too soon,” another player wrote on X.

Others left simpler messages. “I was really rooting for him. I’m sorry for your loss,” one commenter said. Another wrote, “This one actually hurts. the whole community was rooting for him. rest easy Jerry”.

Fort’s family is planning a balloon release in his honor. A date has not been announced.

Rockstar Has Not Commented Publicly

Calls are growing for Rockstar Games to include a tribute to Fort in GTA VI. Players have asked the studio to add a memorial or a reference to Void Only inside the game.

Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have not commented publicly on Fort’s death. The studio also did not respond publicly to his August video. No official statement has confirmed whether a tribute will appear in the game.

What to Know About GTA VI’s Global Release

GTA VI launches on November 19, 2026, worldwide. The release timing is the same across major markets, including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India.
