Song Mino, a member of the K-pop group WINNER, is facing an investigation by the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) in South Korea regarding his performance during his public service for military duty. The investigation follows allegations of poor attendance and neglect of duty.
Investigation Details
The Seoul Mapo Police indicted Mino on December 23 for a possible violation of the Military Service Act. This action came after a request from the MMA for a detailed investigation. An MMA official stated that an internal review found certain aspects of the case needing further examination, leading to the formal investigation. The Seoul Mapo Police are now reviewing the request to determine if there was indeed a violation of the Military Service Act.
According to 10Asia, if the investigation confirms dereliction of duty, Song Mino might have to return to his public service assignment and serve additional time. This could result in the cancellation of his military discharge, which also occurred on December 23.
Allegations and Agency Response
Initial reports by Dispatch claimed that Mino neglected his alternate service duty and had poor attendance at his assigned center. These reports said that he did not report for duty for several weeks and used annual leave, citing hospitalization for pre-existing conditions. Further allegations suggested that he would only sign autographs or stay in a closed room without performing any work.
YG Entertainment, Song Mino’s agency, issued a brief statement. They said that Mino used vacation days and sick leave according to military regulations. The agency denied the allegations of neglect but did not provide further clarification.
