His promotion comes as he undergoes basic training before joining the Army Military Band for his mandatory service.
Cha Eun Woo’s Military Journey So Far
Cha Eun Woo officially began his military service on July 28, 2025 at the Army Training Center in Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do. He entered the facility surrounded by support from his ASTRO bandmates MJ, JinJin, and Yoon San Ha, as well as Fantagio labelmate Choi Yoojung. Before entering, he shared a heartfelt message with fans through his agency’s social media.
“We would like to share Eun Woo’s message to all AROHA who have shown so much love for the first chapter of his youth: he promises to stay healthy and return safely. Let’s wait together until the day we meet him again.”
The day before enlistment, Cha Eun Woo went live on YouTube showing his new military haircut, which he said was the shortest his hair had been since he was 2-3 years old. “It feels awkward every time I look in the mirror, and it’s amazing that this day has come for me, too. I’m curious and looking forward to my 30s after joining the army. I wish you all the best in everything you do, and I’ll be back safely,” he told fans.
Projects Continuing During Military Service
Even while serving, Cha Eun Woo will remain visible to fans through several upcoming projects. His new film First Ride had its debut poster released on his enlistment day by Showbox. The movie follows four lifelong friends who take their first overseas trip together in their thirties, with Cha Eun Woo playing Yeon Min alongside Kang Ha-neul, Kim Young-kwang, and Kang Young-seok.
Additionally, Cha Eun Woo has a solo album scheduled for release in September 2025 and will appear in the Netflix series The WONDERfools. In this show, he plays Lee Woon-jung, a socially awkward civic servant who gains superpowers along with other townies to protect Haeseong City. These projects were strategically planned to maintain his presence during his 18-month service period.
Before enlisting, Cha Eun Woo held fan meetings titled “The Royal” in South Korea on July 12 and Japan on July 15. These events were inspired by a childhood photo where he dressed as a prince, a look he recreated for the fan meetings. His last public appearance before enlistment was at Kyung Hee University’s Peace Hall in Seoul on July 12.
Military Service Details and Discharge Date
After completing five weeks of basic training, Cha Eun Woo will serve as a musician in the Army Military Band. His expected discharge date is January 27, 2027. The military band assignment allows him to utilize his musical talents during service, a common placement for entertainers with musical backgrounds.
In South Korea, all able-bodied men must complete 18-21 months of military service before turning 28. Cha Eun-Woo, born on March 30, 1997, is fulfilling this mandatory duty at age 28. His rapid promotion to Company Commander Trainee demonstrates his adaptability and leadership skills in the military environment.
Fans continue to show overwhelming support on social media platforms. Many have requested that people stop sharing edited army photos of Cha Eun-Woo now that real images from his service are available. The fanbase remains active in promoting his upcoming projects and counting down the days until his return in 2027.
