Two of South Korea’s biggest stars, Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook, have been officially confirmed to lead the new JTBC fantasy romantic comedy drama ‘Human X Gumiho’. The casting confirmation on November 12 has generated significant excitement, marking the first time the two A-list actors will headline a drama together.

The project brings together a celebrated writer and director known for hit shows. The drama is penned by writer Im Meari, recognized for her work on popular rom-coms like ‘Doom at Your Service’ and ‘The Beauty Inside’. Directing is Kim Jung Sik, who previously led ‘Strong Girl Namsoon’ and ‘Work Later, Drink Now’.

The Story and Characters

‘Hum an X Gumiho’ is a fantasy romantic comedy that tells the story of a mystical being who charms humans and a man who attracts supernatural creatures, with fate bringing them together.

Jun Ji Hyun will play Gu Ja Hong, a top actress admired for her beauty and acting talent. Behind this public persona, she is a 2,000-year-old gumiho, a mythical nine-tailed fox. Her ability to enchant and manipulate humans often leads to scandals. Her character meets her match when she encounters Choi Seok, a human who is mysteriously immune to her powers, sparking her curiosity and determination.

Ji Chang Wook takes on the role of Choi Seok, a gifted shaman and the director of the Osung Museum. While he appears cheerful and easygoing on the surface, he carries the unique ability to perceive the darker sides of the world. His life is turned upside down when the gumiho, Gu Ja Hong, unexpectedly enters his life, and he finds himself strangely drawn to her.

A Highly Anticipated On-Screen Pairing

The collaboration between Jun Ji Hyun and Ji Chang Wook is one of the most talked-about aspects of the new drama. While this will be their first time co-starring in a television series, the two are already working together on the upcoming zombie thriller film ‘Colony’, directed by Yeon Sang Ho of ‘Train to Busan’ fame.

News of their confirmed casting was met with enthusiastic reactions from fans and netizens. One fan commented, “Daebak! Jun Ji Hyun suits the role so much! Ji Chang Wook as a shaman would be unique. I think their chemistry will be amazing.” Others expressed their excitement with simple messages like “So excited for this” and “It already sounds fun.”

Production and Release Schedule

According to reports, ‘Human X Gumiho’ is scheduled to begin its production process in March 2026. The drama is planned to have a total of 14 episodes.

The series will air on the JTBC network. For international viewers, the drama will be made available for streaming worldwide on Amazon Prime Video.
