Dr. Heavenly Kimes shared that she found out about her son’s arrest from social media and felt pressured to discuss the painful family matter on the new season of Married to Medicine. The reality star and dentist spoke about this difficult time while also managing a campaign for political office.

During an interview at BravoCon 2025 in Las Vegas, Kimes explained that the personal challenges she faces in real life always become part of the show. She described the upcoming season as “explosive” because it forced her to talk about things she usually keeps private.

What Happened with Damon Jr.

The situation involves Kimes’s older son, Damon Kimes Jr., who is 28 years old. Earlier this year, he was indicted on a felony charge of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer. The incident reportedly took place in February 2023.

According to legal documents, Damon Jr. was accused of driving his vehicle toward a police officer from Georgia State University. The officer was not hit. In August, the case was given a judicial hold and placed into Fulton County’s Pre-Trial Adult Diversion Program. This program allows Damon Jr. to resolve the matter by completing community service and mental health counseling instead of going to trial.

Finding Out Through Social Media

For Kimes, one of the most difficult parts was how she learned about the arrest. She first discovered the news years after it happened, and she found out through Twitter. In a recent episode of the show, she talked about this moment with her husband, Dr. Damon Kimes Sr.

“When I first found out the news about Damon Jr. on Twitter, my heart dropped. My heart dropped, y’all don’t know the feeling it would take to see your sonโ€ฆbeing arrestedโ€ฆMy son, I love him so much,” Kimes said in a private confessional for the show.

During a conversation with her husband filmed for Married to Medicine, Kimes expressed her frustration about being kept in the dark. She connected the secrecy to her public life and new political campaign.

“Now, you know we’re public figures, right? And I’m running for office now. And I know it affects you, it affects all of our children, and it affects meโ€ฆ If I had to learn about my son being arrested on social media, what else is out there?” she asked her husband.

Her husband responded that it was not a secret and that he planned to handle the situation. However, Kimes insisted that she was not told about the arrest when it happened and only found out much later.

A Challenging Time and a Political Campaign

Kimes has described the last year as intensely stressful. Alongside her son’s legal issues, she launched a campaign for political office. In July, she announced her candidacy for the Democratic ticket for Georgia State Representative in District 93.

“Listen, my son got arrested, I’m running [a political] campaign,” Kimes said at BravoCon. “I’m running for Congress, and it was just a lot of personal issues. It was a very difficult season for me this year”.

She had previously talked about her son’s arrest in an April livestream with producer Carlos King, calling the situation a “big misunderstanding”. At that time, she stated that her son “never got charged with anything” and handled the matter himself because he knew she would be upset.

When to Watch the Discussion on TV

The conversation about Damon Jr.’s arrest was featured in Season 12, Episode 2 of Married to Medicine, which aired on December 7, 2025. The episode is titled “Makeups and Breakups”.

The show’s twelfth season premiered on November 30, 2025. New episodes air on Bravo on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
