Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest will connect directly to the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, according to new reports. The series, starring Paul Bettany, is expected to set the stage for the multiversal finale in key ways. The final installment in the trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along, VisionQuest is scheduled to debut on Disney+ in 2026.
The Core Mission of VisionQuest
VisionQuest picks up the story of the Vision after the events of WandaVision. Paul Bettany returns as the android Avenger, now known as White Vision. During his last appearance, he regained all his past memories but remains emotionally disconnected from them. The central theme of the series will be Vision’s internal journey to process his past and understand his identity.
“What’s different about Vision right now is that Red Vision gave Vision all of his memories… But White Vision is having real difficulty connecting to them,” Paul Bettany explained at New York Comic Con 2025. “So he has the memories, but he doesn’t have the emotions and the feelings… White Vision’s journey during the show is about his attempt to connect to those memories and who he was”.
This emotional conflict unfolds within Vision’s own mind, visualized as a crowded space where he houses other artificial intelligences from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show’s creative head, Terry Matalas, who previously worked on Star Trek: Picard, compared Vision’s arc to that of Spock, focusing on the struggle to reconcile logic with human feeling.
A Cast of Artificial Intelligence and Key Returns
The series features a unique cast, largely made up of characters who exist as artificial intelligence within Vision’s mind. This includes returning fan favorites and new faces.

- James Spader returns as the villainous Ultron. Terry Matalas has indicated Ultron will be back in an “amazing, unique way,” appearing in both robot and human forms as a core part of the story.
- Ruaridh Mollica plays Thomas Shepherd, the teenage vessel for Vision’s speedster son, Tommy Maximoff (Speed). This character link was confirmed in footage shown at NYCC 2025.
- Emily Hampshire portrays E.D.I.T.H., Tony Stark’s security AI.
- Orla Brady plays F.R.I.D.A.Y., Stark’s AI assistant.
- James D’Arcy returns as J.A.R.V.I.S., the original AI used to create Vision.
- T’Nia Miller joins as Jocasta, a character known in the comics as the “Bride of Ultron,” described as cunning and driven by revenge.
While not officially confirmed, scooper reports suggest that Joe Locke will return as Billy Maximoff (Wiccan), Vision’s other son. The series will also feature Todd Stashwick as a bounty hunter named Paladin, who is hunting Vision.
How VisionQuest Connects to the Larger MCU and Secret Wars
VisionQuest is set to be a pivotal series within Marvel’s Phase Six, acting as a bridge to the upcoming Avengers films. Reports indicate the show will do more than just conclude a trilogy; it will also “tease” the story of Avengers: Secret Wars. This connection may involve its young heroes, Speed and Wiccan. Rumors suggest the series will hint at these characters eventually forming or joining a team like the Champions, while also setting up their roles in the multiversal conflict.
Avengers: Secret Wars is currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2027. It will serve as the massive finale to the Multiverse Saga. Directed by returning favorites Joe and Anthony Russo, the film will follow Avengers: Doomsday, which introduces Robert Downey Jr. as the new main villain, Doctor Doom. Recent production clues suggest Secret Wars will heavily feature Battleworld, a patchwork planet created from the remains of destroyed universes, which Doctor Doom rules as a god emperor.
While specifics are guarded, the groundwork for this multiversal collapse has been laid in projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Loki, which introduced the dangerous concept of incursions, where two universes collide and destroy each other. VisionQuest is now positioned to add a crucial, character-driven piece to this complex puzzle, potentially explaining how key players are drawn into the impending crisis.
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television, has teased that dedicated MCU fans will be “very, very, very rewarded” by the lore explored in VisionQuest. With its deep dive into the history of artificial life in the MCU and its direct links to the future of the universe, the series is shaping up to be essential viewing before the Avengers assemble for their greatest battle.
