The fifth season of Emily in Paris arrives on Netflix, mixing new Italian adventures with familiar Parisian drama. The show confirms a split between Rome and Paris for its story, with all new episodes ready to stream now. This season brings changes to the cast and fresh storylines, while creator Darren Star shares thoughts on how long the popular series might continue.

Season 5 Official Release Date and Time

The new season is available worldwide starting Thursday, December 18, 2025. Netflix released all 10 episodes at once on that date. For viewers in the United States, the season went live at 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time. The release follows the show’s pattern, with the full season dropping on a single day.

What Happened at the End of Season 4?

Season 4 ended with major changes for Emily Cooper. After a breakup with her neighbor and on-again, off-again boyfriend, chef Gabriel, Emily accepted a new opportunity in Italy. She moved to Rome to open an Italian branch for her boss Sylvie’s marketing firm, Agence Grateau. Her move was also motivated by a new romantic interest, Marcello, a handsome Italian fashion heir she met at a polo match.

โ€œI donโ€™t want to work with you, Marcello, I want to be with you,โ€ Emily told him, clarifying her reasons for the trip.

Meanwhile, back in Paris, Gabriel had a change of heart. In the final moments of the season, he realized he had made a mistake and wanted to fight for Emily. This set up a classic love triangle for the new season.

The Main Story and New Settings for Season 5

The official description for Season 5 states that Emily is now the head of Agence Grateau Rome. She faces both professional and personal challenges as she adjusts to life in a new city. A work idea backfires, leading to career problems and personal heartbreak. Emily then leans back into her French lifestyle for stability until a big secret comes out, threatening one of her closest relationships.

Creator Darren Star described this season as โ€œa tale of two cities: Rome and Parisโ€. While Emily has a strong presence in Rome, the show is not abandoning its original setting. Star made it clear that Paris remains a key location.

โ€œEmilyโ€™s going to have a presence in Rome,โ€ Star said. โ€œIt doesnโ€™t mean sheโ€™s not going to be in Parisโ€.

Filming for the season took place in both Rome and Paris. Scenes were also shot in the picturesque city of Venice.

Answers About the Show’s Future

With the release of a fifth season, many fans are asking if this could be the final chapter for Emily Cooper. Based on statements from the show’s creator, the answer appears to be no.

Darren Star has expressed a view that the show is not limited to a set number of seasons. In an interview, he explained that the rich ensemble of characters could support more stories.

โ€œItโ€™s not necessarily conceived as a final chapter,โ€ Star told Deadline. โ€œI think like every other show, itโ€™s a rich ensemble. Thereโ€™s no end in sight until everybody feels like itโ€™s time to endโ€.

He compared it to his previous hit, Sex and the City, noting that stories for great characters can continue for many years. The decision to send Emily to Italy was part of a plan to keep the show fresh and take the audience to new places.

Actor Lucien Laviscount, who plays Alfie, hinted that the new season has surprising turns. โ€œAll Iโ€™m gonna say is strap in. Because it goes left, so far left, and a little bit right this season,โ€ he told People magazine.
