A special new teaser for the upcoming SBS drama Wicked World has fans excited. It shows a chaotic and fiery first meeting between a Joseon-era villainess and a modern-day billionaire. The teaser, released on December 31 at the 2025 SBS Drama Awards, introduces the intense, war-like romance between its two powerful leads.
The story follows Shin Seo Ri (played by Lim Ji Yeon), a struggling actress in 2026 who becomes possessed by the spirit of Kang Dan Sim, one of the most feared villainesses from the Joseon era. She clashes with Cha Se Gye (played by Heo Nam Jun), the ruthless heir to the powerful Cha Il Group, who is known as a “monster of capitalism”. The drama is scheduled to premiere in May 2026.
From Joseon Execution To A 2026 Awakening
The teaser starts in the past, showing the dramatic final moments of the Joseon villainess, Kang Dan Sim. She is forced to drink poison as punishment for what is called an “unforgivable crime”. Defiant until the end, she flings the poison bowl away and shouts, “What exactly is my crime?”. This scene establishes her as a fierce and authoritative figure who refused to bow down.
After the poison takes effect, the story jumps to the year 2026. Kang Dan Sim opens her eyes again, but this time in the body of Shin Seo Ri, an unknown actress who is on the set of a historical drama. This sudden shift from a royal court death to a modern film set creates the core fantasy of the show. Lim Ji Yeon will play this dual role, portraying both the ancient villainess and the modern actress taken over by her spirit.
A Chaotic First Meeting Sparks A “War-Like Romance”
The main conflict begins when the revived Kang Dan Sim, now living as Shin Seo Ri, meets Cha Se Gye. He is a third-generation chaebol heir with a reputation for being ruthless and abusing his power. Their first encounter is far from a polite introduction.
In the middle of a city street, Shin Seo Ri launches a surprise attack on Cha Se Gye. She hits him with branches and flowers, creating a chaotic scene that completely breaks his usual composed and dominant attitude. He is visibly shocked by this assault. He quickly fights back, throwing a red flower back at her. The teaser frames this unusual fight like a sword duel, with both characters holding floral branches as if they are weapons. This explosive meeting sets the tone for what the drama calls a “war-like romance,” where their relationship is built on a power struggle and intense clashes.
Behind The Scenes: The Creative Team And Cast
Wicked World brings together a noted director and a rising writer. The drama is directed by Han Tae Seob, who is known for hit series like Stove League and Cheer Up. The script is written by Kang Hyun Joo. This combination promises a well-made series that blends romantic comedy with fantasy and conflict.
The cast also includes actor Jang Seung Jo. He will play Choi Moon Do, the president of Cha Il Construction and a fifth cousin to Cha Se Gye. His character is described as highly capable and ambitious, skilled at managing his public image and relationships. His presence is expected to add another layer of tension and rivalry within the powerful family conglomerate.
