Danai Gurira, the celebrated actor known for Okoye in Black Panther and Michonne in The Walking Dead, is joining the voice cast of Invincible for its fourth season. She will voice a powerful new alien character named Universa. The news was confirmed with new promotional images for the animated series, which is scheduled to return to Amazon Prime Video in March 2026. Her other iconic role is Michonne, the katana-wielding survivor from AMC’s long-running series The Walking Dead and its sequel series, The Ones Who Lived. Beyond her on-screen work, Gurira is an accomplished playwright. She won an Obie Award for her play In the Continuum and wrote the Broadway play Eclipsed, which was nominated for six Tony Awards. Meet Universa, Season 4’s New Threat
Gurira will bring to life Universa, a mysterious and powerful alien new to the Invincible television series. Early promotional material shows Universa in conflict with the hero Atom Eve, played by Gillian Jacobs. The character is depicted as an extraterrestrial being who wields a Staff of Leadership.
While specific plot details are kept secret, hints about her motives have been shared. In the original comic books, Universa arrives on Earth with a critical mission: she attempts to drain energy from the planet to save her own home world. Robert Kirkman, the creator of both Invincible and The Walking Dead, described Universa as being “on a quest to save her own planet,” which will bring her into “direct conflict with Invincible and his friends”.
A Walking Dead Reunion on Prime Video
Gurira’s casting continues a significant trend for Invincible. The show features an extensive list of actors from The Walking Dead, the popular zombie drama also created by Robert Kirkman. This makes Gurira’s involvement a natural fit and a reunion with several former colleagues.
Most notably, she joins Steven Yeun, who played Glenn on The Walking Dead and stars as the voice of the show’s lead character, Mark Grayson/Invincible. Other Walking Dead alumni in the Invincible voice cast include:

Lee Pace (Foundation) joins the cast as the voice of Thragg, the brutal leader of the Viltrumite Empire and one of the most dangerous antagonists in the entire story.
New images also preview returning characters and new conflicts. They show Mark Grayson battling the intelligent but monstrous Dinosaurus and feature moments between his father, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), and Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen). The season will also continue a unique storyline hinted at the end of Season 3, involving the detective Damien Darkblood (Clancy Brown) and a journey into a hellish dimension.
