Song Kang is officially returning to television. The actor, who completed his mandatory military service in October 2025, has chosen his first project. He will star in the new music and youth drama Four Hands for tvN. His co-stars will be Lee Jun-young and Jang Gyu-ri. The series is scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2026.

Song Kang Returns as a Piano Prodigy in Four Hands

The new drama Four Hands marks Song Kang’s first role since being discharged from the military. He plays Kang Bi-oh, a piano prodigy known as a perfectionist. His character is at the top of his class in both academics and piano, with a strong work ethic to match his natural talent. He is seen as a future star destined to win the world’s top piano competitions. His life changes completely when a new rival arrives at his school.

A representative of the production shared, โ€œTheir fierce clashes and growth will deliver an exhilarating rush of dopamine to viewers.โ€

The drama’s title, Four Hands, is a piano term. It refers to a piece of music written for two players performing on a single piano. This title hints at the central relationship between the two main male characters.

Lee Jun-young and Jang Gyu-ri Join the Cast as Rival and Friend

Lee Jun-young takes on the role of Choi Jeong-yo, the rival who disrupts Kang Bi-oh’s world. His character is also a piano genius but had a difficult upbringing that caused him to turn away from his talent. He suddenly appears at the prestigious Korea Arts High School, a place filled with elite musical talents, and meets the prodigy who once greatly inspired him.

Jang Gyu-ri completes the main trio as Hong Jae-in, a viola major. Her character is gifted with extremely sensitive hearing and exceptional musical instinct. She is on a constant search for music that truly satisfies her ears. She becomes a close friend to Kang Bi-oh, supporting him because his music has been the only sound to delight her since childhood.

Behind the Scenes of the Four Hands Production

Four Hands is an original series produced by Studio N. It will be directed by Park Hyun-seok, whose previous works include Song of the Bandits and Stranger Season 2. The screenwriter is Shin Yi-won.

The series will explore the friendships, romantic relationships, rivalry, and personal growth of young people who meet at an arts high school. The story will follow them from their school days into their adult lives as professional musicians.

Principal photography for the series reportedly began in the second half of 2025, ahead of its planned 2026 broadcast.

Global Release Details for International Fans

Four Hands is set to air on the Korean cable channel tvN. It will also be available for streaming on TVING, which is a major Korean streaming platform.

While official global licensing has not been announced as of January 2026, most major tvN dramas are typically picked up by international streaming services. Past tvN hits like My Demon and Sweet Home found global audiences on Netflix. A similar distribution pattern is expected for Four Hands, but viewers should wait for an official confirmation closer to the premiere date.

The drama is scheduled for a wide release in the second half of 2026. This means audiences in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions can likely expect to watch it with subtitles around the same time, depending on the final streaming partner.

Song Kang’s Career Journey to Four Hands

Song Kang’s last major role before his military enlistment was as the demon Jeong Gu-won in the popular 2023 fantasy romance My Demon alongside Kim Yoo-jung. He is also well-known globally for his lead role as Cha Hyun-soo in Netflix’s apocalyptic horror series Sweet Home, which has run for multiple seasons.

He enlisted for his mandatory military service on April 2, 2024, and was discharged on October 1, 2025. The confirmation of his role in Four Hands ends months of speculation from fans about what his first post-military project would be.

This new role represents a shift in genre for Song Kang, moving from supernatural fantasy and horror into a music-focused youth drama.
