What Happens in Episode 4: The “Bad Blood” Story
The official synopsis for “Bad Blood” sets up a complex case for Eliza. Charlie Phelps, who is now the Detective Inspector at the City of London Police, hires Eliza for a personal job. He wants her to investigate a case involving his uncle, Dylan Cooper.
However, Eliza quickly learns that Scotland Yard is also investigating Cooper for crimes committed in their jurisdiction. This situation leaves Eliza trapped in the middle of two competing police investigations. She must navigate the case carefully while satisfying her client and managing the interest from her usual contacts at Scotland Yard.
Charlie Phelps says to Eliza, “You cause me any problems, I’ll put you away. Family or not”.
The episode explores themes of family duty and professional ethics. Phelps confesses to Eliza that his mother is unwell, adding emotional weight to his request. He states his need for certainty before potentially sending his uncle to jail.
“For all your faults, Miss Scarletโand God knows there are manyโyou’re someone I can trust,” Phelps tells her.
