Nicolas Cage is set to return to the world of superheroes in a live-action series, and he will be joined by a formidable new cast member. Jack Huston has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Prime Video and MGM+ series Spider-Noir, playing the role of Flint Marko. The series, which narrows its release window to Spring 2026, reimagines classic Marvel characters in a 1930s detective noir setting.
Huston, known for his roles in Boardwalk Empire and Mayfair Witches, will portray a version of the character better known to comic book fans as the villain Sandman. This marks a new live-action interpretation of the character, who was last seen in films played by Thomas Haden Church.
The Role of Flint Marko in ‘Spider-Noir’
In Spider-Noir, Jack Huston’s Flint Marko will not be the central villain but will serve as a key enforcer within the show’s criminal underworld. According to recent reports, Marko is described as “hired muscle” working for the New York mob boss Silvermane, played by Brendan Gleeson.
โIn all the great detective stories, you have two cases that sort of come together and you realize you’re actually working the same thing,โ said showrunner Oren Uziel, hinting at the interconnected mysteries of the series.
It is currently unclear if this version of Flint Marko will possess the classic sand-manipulating superpowers from the comics. The series’ 1930s noir aesthetic suggests a more grounded, period-appropriate take on the character, possibly focusing on his role as a formidable gangster. His primary interaction will be with Cage’s character, Ben Reilly, whom he reportedly invites to “go pound sand”โa witty, era-appropriate threat of a physical confrontation.
A Fresh Take on a Classic Spider-Man Villain
This casting gives the character of Sandman a new opportunity in live-action. Thomas Haden Church previously played a more sympathetic version of Flint Marko in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, a performance that was often highlighted as a strength of the film. Huston’s portrayal in the distinct noir genre will offer a markedly different interpretation.
The series aims to blend the hard-boiled detective style with the expansive lore of the Spider-Verse. Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who helped create the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, are behind this project. Their involvement suggests a tone that mixes classic film noir with the inventive spirit of the Spider-Verse films.
The World and Cast of ‘Spider-Noir’
Spider-Noir stars Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, an aging, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York who is forced to confront his past as a masked vigilante known as “The Spider”. Cage, who voiced a version of Spider-Man Noir in the 2018 animated film, describes his live-action character as “70 percent Humphrey Bogart, and 30 percent Bugs Bunny,” pointing to a blend of gritty detective and cartoonish charm.
The core mystery of the season involves Reilly investigating a series of assassination attempts on crime lord Silvermane, which draws him back into a dangerous world he thought he had left behind. The ensemble cast features several other reimagined Marvel characters:
- Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, a freelance journalist for the Daily Bugle.
- Li Jun Li as Cat Hardy, a nightclub singer and femme fatale inspired by the character Felicia Hardy, also known as Black Cat.
- Karen Rodriguez as Janet, Ben Reilly’s sharp and loyal secretary.

Release Format and Details
A unique feature of Spider-Noir is its presentation. The series will be available for viewers to watch in either “Authentic Black & White” to mimic classic film noir or in “True-Hue Full Color”. This choice pays homage to the cinematic style of the 1930s while offering a modern viewing option.
The show is scheduled to premiere in Spring 2026 and will be released on the MGM+ channel in the United States. For global audiences, all episodes will be available for streaming on Prime Video. The series order is for eight episodes.
