The first official images from S.W.A.T. Exiles are out, giving audiences their first real look at Shemar Moore back in action as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. Sony Pictures Television released the stills on February 17, 2026, sharing them exclusively with Variety just before the London TV Screenings next week .

These are not just behind-the-scenes photos or cast portraits. The new pictures show Hondo in a more serious, reflective mood as he takes on a completely different challenge. He is no longer just leading a seasoned team. Instead, he stands alongside a group of年轻 and untested recruits, and the tension is already visible in the images .

The 10-episode spinoff comes from the decision to expand the S.W.A.T. franchise after the original series ended its eight-season run on CBS. Sony Pictures Television announced the project back in May 2025 at the L.A. Screenings, even without a U.S. network deal in place . Production officially wrapped on February 10, 2026, and now the focus shifts to finding a home for the show .

What Is ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ About?

The story picks up after a high-profile mission goes terribly wrong. Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement to lead an experimental S.W.A.T. unit. But this is not the team he is used to. The squad is made up of young, unpredictable, and untested recruits who come with their own baggage and attitudes .

The official logline explains that Hondo must bridge a generational divide, manage clashing personalities, and turn a group of outsiders into a real team. His goal is not just to protect the city but also to save the program that shaped his entire career .

Jason Ning, who worked on Lucifer, serves as the showrunner and executive producer. He described the new direction to Variety, saying:

“Exiles honors everything audiences love about the original: big epic action, adrenaline. But it pushes it into more personal territory. This time, it’s not just about what happens on the streets of L.A., it’s about what it costs the people in that stack. Pairing a battle-tested leader like Hondo with a generation that challenges him at every turn creates real friction and real evolution” .

The first look images hint at that friction. One still shows Hondo appearing to rebuke Adain Bradley’s character, while other recruits look on with mistrust or outright hostility .

Who Is in the Cast of the Spinoff?

Shemar Moore leads the series, returning to the role he played for eight seasons. But he is joined by a roster of new series regulars who will make up his experimental unit .

The new recruits include:

  • Lucy Barrett (Deep Water, Charmed) as Sammy Bishop
  • Adain Bradley (Warfare, Tarot) as Malik Anderson
  • Zyra Gorecki (La Brea) as Cassidy Reed
  • Freddy Miyares (When They See Us) as Ethan Cole
  • Ronen Rubinstein (9-1-1: Lone Star) as Jude Callan

The characters come from different backgrounds. Some are former Marines, others are undercover cops with controversial pasts, and a few are academy standouts who refused desk duty. Each carries secrets that could complicate the team’s dynamic .

Fan favorites from the original series are also stopping by. Jay Harrington (Sergeant David ‘Deacon’ Kay), Patrick St. Esprit (Commander Robert Hicks), and David Lim (Victor Tan) are confirmed to return as guest stars. Harrington will also direct an episode .

Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions) and Jerry O’Connell (Billions) have joined as guest stars, along with Lenora Crichlow (Bel Air) in a recurring role .

When and Where Will ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Be Released?

Right now, S.W.A.T. Exiles does not have a U.S. network or streaming platform confirmed . Sony Pictures Television is producing and distributing the show globally, and they are using the upcoming London TV Screenings (Europe’s biggest TV market) to present the series to international buyers .

The show will likely generate interest quickly. The original S.W.A.T. series reached nearly 2 billion hours watched globally and ranked among the top 10 series in 47 countries during its eight-season run .

For fans wondering where they might eventually watch it, the original S.W.A.T. currently streams on Netflix, Hulu, Pluto TV, and Paramount+, and also airs on Sundance TV and WEtv . A similar deal could happen for the spinoff once Sony secures distribution.

Kevin Tancharoen (The Brothers Sun, Teacup) directed the first episode . The executive producer team includes Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, along with Moore, James Scura, and Jon Cowan .

The first look images suggest a grittier and more intense atmosphere compared to the original. Shemar Moore previously teased the show’s direction, saying:

“Get ready for S.W.A.T. 2.0! After eight incredible years of defying the odds and entertaining the world, we’re about to take the franchise to a whole new level — bigger, better, and edgier. With a fresh cast and a darker, more intense Hondo, we’re ready to bring this story to life” .

With production complete and the first images now public, the next step is finding a network or streamer. The London TV Screenings starting next week will be the place where many international buyers get their first look at the footage .
