Hirohiko Araki’s ongoing manga series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 9: The JoJoLands, has delivered one of its most emotionally intense and horror-filled chapters yet. The latest release, Chapter 34, shifts the spotlight firmly onto fan-favorite character Usagi Alohaoe, peeling back layers of his past while throwing the gang into a stand fight that feels straight out of a horror movie. This chapter is packed with heavy emotional backstory and a new enemy that has readers drawing comparisons to classic villains from the series’ history.

Usagi’s Tragic Backstory Finally Comes to Light

The chapter does not hold back when it comes to Usagi’s character development. While searching for his mother and sister, the story takes a deep dive into why Usagi is estranged from his family. The revelation is devastatingly simple and cruel.

As the group investigates, it is revealed that Usagi was sent to a correctional facility by his own mother. The reason? He had realized he might be bisexual and confided in her about his feelings. Instead of support, he faced rejection and was institutionalized because of his sexuality.

Fans are reacting strongly to this heavy lore drop. On social media and forums, readers expressed shock at the sudden tragedy. One reader commented, “Usagi opening up to his mom about his crushing loneliness, only for her to immediately institutionalize him because of his bisexuality? holy fuck, man! that hurts!”

This backstory adds a tragic weight to Usagi’s character, explaining his current loner personality and his desperate desire to protect the family that rejected him. The narrative highlights the deep emotional scars that drive him, making his current danger in the story even more tense.

A Horror-Level Stand Battle Begins

While the emotional drama unfolds, the physical threat escalates to a terrifying degree. The group tracks Usagi’s mother to a location linked to a mysterious man named Max. When Jodio and the others arrive at Max’s house, they find a gruesome scene: Max’s body is already there, with half of his face blown off.

Before entering, Jodio noticed a creepy shadow lurking outside. But once inside, the physical enemy had seemingly vanished, leaving only the corpse. However, the danger is far from over.

The horror escalates at a zoo, where the group continues their search. Suddenly, the corpse of Max appears directly behind Usagi. In a chilling twist, only Usagi can see the apparition. As Paco turns around, he sees Usagi’s terrified reaction but cannot perceive the enemy standing right there. The chapter ends with Usagi falling into a crocodile pit, leaving his fate hanging in the balance.

Fans Connect the New Enemy to Classic JoJo Villains

The terrifying nature of this new Stand user has sparked immediate discussion among the fanbase. Readers are noting strong similarities between this new enemy, “Max,” and past characters from the series.

Many fans believe Max is the Steel Ball Run (SBR) universe equivalent of Sports Maximum, the villain from Stone Ocean who controlled invisible zombies using his Stand, Limp Viscuit (Limp Bizkit). The appearance of a corpse that only one person can see and the eerie atmosphere in the zoo strongly mirror the events of Part 6.

One fan theorized, “It seems like Max is a zombie, just like Sports Maximum was. The alligator pond definitely calls to mind the Limp Viscuit (Limp Bizkit) fight from part 6.” Another added, “Whatever this Stand is now is showing Usagi a vision of Max’s corpse or something. Or maybe it’s only visible to him because he stepped on his blood.”

The current theory is that the Stand operates similarly to a combination of Sports Maximum’s invisible zombies and Black Sabbath from Part 5, which would attack anyone who looked away from it. The tension of the “look back” moment at the end of the chapter reinforces this horror-element style.

The Hunt for the Lava Rock Continues

Amidst the chaos, the main plot involving the Lava Rock is still moving forward. The chapter briefly cuts back to a phone call between Jodio and the mangaka Rohan Kishibe. They discuss the current situation and the nature of the Lava Rock, reminding readers that while Usagi’s personal tragedy is unfolding, the larger goal of obtaining the rock and the fortune it brings is still in play.

This blend of personal stakes with the overarching plot of wealth and crime is a hallmark of JoJoLands, and Chapter 34 balances the two expertly. The chapter does not provide a conclusion to the battle, leaving readers on a massive cliffhanger as Usagi faces the crocodile pit with an invisible enemy stalking him.
