What is Hell University About?

The story centers on Zein Shion, played by Heart Ryan, and her group of friends. While lost in the woods, they find a building that looks abandoned. A man invites them inside, and they soon discover it is actually a functioning university that operates outside government control. The school offers free tuition and meals, but the cost is high.

Every night, the Bloody Night begins. During these hours, there are no rules. Students can do anything without consequences. The group quickly realizes they have entered a dangerous place ruled by gangs and violent hierarchies. Zein takes on the role of leader, trying to keep her friends alive while uncovering the truth about the school.

“As fear slowly erodes trust within the group, Zein steps up, determined to keep everyone alive while gradually uncovering a system deliberately designed to prevent escape,” the official synopsis states.

Main Cast and Characters

The series features a cast of rising Filipino actors. Heart Ryan and Zeke Polina take on their first lead roles in this project. Here are the main cast members:

  • Heart Ryan as Zein Shion: A brave student who protects her friends and looks for a way out.
  • Zeke Polina as Ace Craige: The Supremo or president of the Supreme Student Council. He is quiet, powerful, and helps Zein survive.
  • Lance Carr as Raze Silvenia: Leader of the Devil God Warrior gang.
  • Aubrey Caraan as Samantha: A former student who holds secrets about the university.
  • Andre Yllana as Matthew “Matt” Hart: Zein’s friend who secretly has feelings for her.
  • Keagan de Jesus as Nazzer Lumia: Leader of the Black Blood Gang.
  • Jemima Rivera as Nicky Colt: A dangerous member of the Black Blood Gang.

The supporting cast also includes Gabbi Ejercito, Derrick Ong, Jastine Lim, Jac Abellana, Jao Canlas, and Andrea Del Rosario as the villainous Madam Violet.

What Happens in Episode 1

The first episode, titled “Newbies,” sets up the terrifying world of the series. Zein and her friends are lost in the woods and find the university after dark. They meet the principal, who explains the rules. The group does not take the threat seriously at first, but when the Bloody Night begins, they see a student get killed. The next day, they discover the victim was the brother of a powerful gang leader, which starts a larger conflict.

The episode introduces the two main gangs that control the campus. Raze leads the Devil God Warriors, and Nazzer leads the Black Blood Gang. Zein and her friends are caught in the middle, with no clear way to escape.

Production Details and Background

The series was adapted from a Wattpad story that has over 179 million reads. Director Bobby Bonifacio Jr. worked with production designer Ericson Navarro to build the look of Hell University. They used an abandoned building and redesigned it with an Art Deco style to create the unsettling atmosphere.

The cast shared that filming in isolated locations was physically demanding. Heart Ryan mentioned that being in abandoned places with no basic facilities made the experience challenging but helped them get into character.

Zeke Polina described how he prepared for his role as Ace, a character who hides his emotions. “May switch akong ginagawa—from Zeke to Ace,” he said, explaining how he shifts between himself and the character.

The soundtrack includes contributions from the Filipino boy band Alamat, adding to the show’s intense mood.
