The Marvel hero from Harlem might finally be coming back. Mike Colter, who played Luke Cage in the Netflix series, has confirmed that conversations are happening about his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor revealed that he and Charlie Cox (Daredevil) have been discussing the possibility of bringing Cage back, specifically for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.
Fans have been waiting for updates on Luke Cage ever since Marvel started bringing back other Netflix-era characters. With Krysten Ritter already confirmed to return as Jessica Jones in the upcoming season, the timing now seems right for Cage to make his comeback.
Mike Colter Opens Up About Ongoing Talks with Marvel and Charlie Cox
During an appearance at MegaCon in Orlando, Colter shared details about where things stand with Marvel. While answering fan questions in a panel moderated by Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, the actor explained that Charlie Cox has been actively encouraging him to return.
“If it happens, it happens. Charlie really likes doing Daredevil, and he’s always trying to chat with me about coming back, so I was happy for him to have a chance to revisit that role. And yes, I’d like to come back and do more stuff with Luke Cage.”
Colter also spoke on the Shawn Stockman’s On That Note podcast about having conversations with Marvel regarding the character. He mentioned that he previously was not interested in returning, but that has changed.
“I’ve had conversations. I’ve had conversations which, before, I was, ‘No.’ When it wrapped — I loved playing Luke Cage, but I love acting and doing different things, so I just was like, ‘I’ll do something else.’ I love the fans and I love that world. It’s been years now, so I’m doing other projects, but now I think to myself, ‘I have some unfinished business there.’”
The actor also mentioned that he has talked with Cheo Hodari Coker, the creator and showrunner of the original Luke Cage series. Colter now feels ready to revisit the character after years of focusing on other projects.
Jessica Jones Return Opens the Door for Luke Cage in Season 2
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on March 24, 2026, on Disney+. The new season will consist of eight episodes and continues the story right after the events of Season 1.
The confirmation of Krysten Ritter returning as Jessica Jones has been a major factor in building excitement around Luke Cage’s potential return. In the original Netflix shows, Jones and Cage had a complicated romantic relationship that fans have wanted to see continue.
At MegaCon, Colter was asked about the relationship between Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. He acknowledged the complicated nature of their connection.
“Well, it’s a toxic relationship. Of course he can forgive her. That’s how it goes.”
When asked about his character potentially becoming a father in the MCU, Colter responded positively.
“It’s been written, and it makes sense. I mean, why not? It’d be kind of crazy. Yeah. But sure.”
What Role Could Luke Cage Play in Daredevil: Born Again?
Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, is currently the mayor of New York City in the show’s storyline. This political angle creates a natural opportunity for Luke Cage to appear. In the comics, Cage eventually becomes mayor of New York after Fisk’s time in office.
Colter has shared ideas about what he would want to explore if he returns as Luke Cage. He previously told The Direct that he wants to see the character take control of Harlem and face the challenges of having power.
Reports indicate that if Luke Cage does appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, it might be a limited role. According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Cage has a cameo in the upcoming season rather than a major storyline presence.
Another insider, Alex P., reported that the return of the Defenders, including Luke Cage and Finn Jones as Danny Rand (Iron Fist), is expected in Season 2 alongside Jessica Jones.

Marvel Slowly Brings Back Netflix Era Heroes
Marvel has been gradually integrating characters from the Netflix shows into the main MCU timeline. Charlie Cox appeared as Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Echo, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law before getting his own series. Vincent D’Onofrio returned as Kingpin in Hawkeye and Echo.
Jon Bernthal also returned as Frank Castle (The Punisher) in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again. He is set to lead his own Disney+ special in the future.
The original Luke Cage series ran for two seasons on Netflix from 2016 to 2018. The show ended with Cage taking control of Harlem’s criminal underworld, leaving many storylines unresolved. Colter also appeared in Jessica Jones and The Defenders crossover series.
Colter remains hopeful about returning to the role and believes things might happen sooner than expected.
“I’d say we’re in a better position to come into fruition faster than we think, so we’ll see. I was giving no one hope before, I am giving hope at least.”
The first season of Daredevil: Born Again is available to stream on Disney+. The second season arrives on March 24, 2026, in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, and globally on Disney+.
