Prime Video’s new comedy series Bait, created by and starring Riz Ahmed, arrived on March 25, 2026. The show has quickly become a talking point for its sharp humor and honest look at what happens when an actor’s career goes sideways. The six-episode series follows Shah Latif, a British Pakistani actor whose life spins out of control after a failed James Bond audition turns into a viral rumor.
The first episode sets the tone with a mix of awkward family moments, social media chaos, and a shocking ending that leaves viewers wanting more. Here is a breakdown of everything that happens in the premiere episode.
Shah’s Audition Turns Into a Disaster
The episode opens with Shah Latif (Riz Ahmed) in a room auditioning for the role of James Bond. His agent worked hard to get him this chance. A female director believes in him and wants to give him a shot. But Shah keeps messing up the same line in every take. The line that trips him up is when the scene partner asks, “Do you even know who you are?” He cannot get the response out.
After several failed attempts, the director loses patience. Shah leaves the audition feeling defeated. In the dressing room, he speaks harshly to himself, calling himself a failure and saying he is a shame to his family. The sound engineer hears everything, adding to his embarrassment.
An assistant warns Shah that paparazzi are waiting outside. They want to catch anyone connected to the Bond rumors. The assistant tells him to leave through the back exit. But Shah ignores this advice. He walks out the front door, letting the photographers click his picture. He wants the attention, even if it came from a failed audition.
Confusion With Dev Patel and a Ride From Cousin Zulfi
On his way home, a man on the street stops Shah. The man thinks he is Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire. Shah plays along because he does not want to disappoint the fan. Then an older woman shouts at him. She says he should not compare himself to Dev Patel and makes him feel small.
His cousin Zulfi (Guz Khan) arrives to pick him up. Zulfi runs a small taxi service in London and jokes about Shah’s acting career. The two brothers trade playful insults. Zulfi calls Shah a loser, and Shah jokes about Zulfi’s small business. Zulfi tells Shah he is taking him home, since Shah has not visited his family in two months.
Family Reacts to the James Bond Rumor
At home, Shah gets a warm welcome from his parents. His father Parvez (Sajid Hasan) and mother Tahira (Sheeba Chaddha) are traditional but loving. They tease him and want him to succeed so they can brag to their friends. His younger cousin Q (Aasiya Shah) discovers that Shah is trending online. The paparazzi photos from the audition have started a rumor that he might be the next James Bond.
The family becomes excited. They start discussing what it would mean for a British Pakistani actor to play Bond. Zulfi jokes about Shah needing heels to look taller. Even Shah’s parents, who are quite religious, suddenly say they are fine with Bond having romantic scenes. The attention becomes too much for Shah. He feels overwhelmed and leaves the apartment to go back to his place.
A Second Chance Arrives
Back in his apartment, Shah looks at his unpaid bills and feels the weight of his struggling career. He takes out a limited edition watch. He received it as a Rising Star Award at a film festival in 2015. The watch reminds him of better times.
His agent Felicia (Weruche Opia) calls with news. Because of the viral rumor, people online are talking about diversity in Hollywood. The studio is considering giving Shah a second chance at the Bond audition. Felicia tells him to stay quiet and let the situation play out. She thinks the attention makes him an interesting candidate.
But Shah does not listen. He decides to go to a club in Kentish Town where his Punjabi rapper friends are performing. He wants to get on stage and keep the attention going while people are still talking about him. At the club, he runs into Yasmin (Ritu Arya), an old girlfriend. The meeting feels awkward.

Social Media Backlash Turns Dangerous
Before Shah can go on stage, he checks his phone. The Bond rumor has gone viral, but not in a good way. He sees racist comments and hateful messages about a Muslim actor playing James Bond. The backlash hits him hard. He has a panic attack and runs out of the club.
At the same time, Shah’s father is at home doing his night prayers. A heavy object crashes through the window. It is a severed pig’s head. The attack targets Shah and his family because of the Bond rumor. Shah’s parents stand in shock.
As the episode ends, Shah gets a text from Felicia. She tells him he has a second chance at the James Bond audition. The news comes at the same moment his family faces a hate crime because of that same rumor.
The first episode of Bait is now streaming on Prime Video. All six episodes dropped on March 25, 2026. Viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India can watch the full series on the platform.
