British actress Kate Beckinsale publicly called out Mark Ruffalo on social media, claiming she was fired by their shared agent for liking a ceasefire post while he kept his job. The 52-year-old “Underworld” star made the comments on Ruffalo’s Instagram post promoting his new film “Palestine 36.”
Beckinsale did not hold back, writing that “having a penis in Hollywood really counts for a lot.” She said the same agent who dropped her continues to represent Ruffalo even though both actors share similar views on the Gaza conflict. The comments have since been deleted, but screenshots spread quickly across social media.
Beckinsale Says She Got Fired on the Same Day as Susan Sarandon
The actress explained that her firing happened in 2023, just two days after the SAG-AFTRA strike ended. Actors had gone nine months without work, making the timing especially difficult. Beckinsale said she liked “a post about a ceasefire” and lost her representation on the same day that Oscar winner Susan Sarandon was also dropped by the same agency.
“She sent me a gift the week before, so we didn’t have any beef,” Beckinsale wrote. She believes her social media activity was the only reason for the firing. The agency, United Talent Agency (UTA) , still represents Ruffalo. UTA also dropped Sarandon in 2023 after she spoke at pro-Palestine rallies in the United States.
‘I Was Fired in Two Sentences After 12 Years of Friendship’
Beckinsale shared that the firing came during an extremely difficult time in her personal life. Her mother Judy Loe had been told she had six weeks to live due to brain cancer. Her stepfather Roy Battersby suffered a serious stroke on top of two types of cancer, which later led to his death.
“I was fired in two sentences after 12 years of friendship with my Agent and yours,” Beckinsale wrote. She said the agent knew what she was dealing with alone as a caregiver but still cut ties. Her mother passed away in July 2025, and her stepfather died in January 2024.
The Actress Reached Out to Ruffalo But Got No Response
Beckinsale claimed she sent Ruffalo a direct message about the situation months ago. She said the “Avengers” star never replied. “I DM’d you about this months ago but you ignored me,” she wrote in the now-deleted comment.
She later told another Instagram user that she was “okay with him ignoring me.” But she pointed out what she called “male privilege even in the good guys.” Beckinsale made it clear she does not blame Ruffalo for what happened. “I’m not even blaming Mark for this,” she said. She added that she truly supports his activism work.
“I applaud your voice and your activism but the price you pay for having a vagina while even remotely liking a post… caused me to be fired and you not, and that is, to say the least interesting.” — Kate Beckinsale
Fans React to the Hollywood Double Standard Claims
Social media users quickly responded to Beckinsale’s accusations. Many agreed that female actors face harsher consequences for speaking out on political issues compared to their male counterparts.
One user wrote, “She’s absolutely right. Women in Hollywood get punished for the same things men get praised for.” Another commenter said, “Mark should at least acknowledge her message. Silence says a lot.”
Some questioned why Beckinsale deleted her comments. Others pointed out that Ruffalo has not publicly addressed the situation at all. Representatives for both actors have not released official statements regarding the incident.

Ruffalo Has Not Responded to the Accusations
As of April 6, 2026, Mark Ruffalo has not publicly responded to Beckinsale’s claims. The 58-year-old actor continues to post about “Palestine 36” and other political topics on his social media accounts. He has been one of Hollywood’s most outspoken celebrities calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
