The wait is finally over. Prime Video dropped the first two episodes of The Boys Season 5 on April 8, 2026, and the final chapter is already off to a bloody start. The show wasted no time killing off a major character, bringing back Soldier Boy, and pushing the supe-killing virus to the front of the battle between Billy Butcher and Homelander.
The two episodes, titled “Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite” and “Teenage Kix,” set up the endgame for the entire series. The final season has eight episodes total, with new episodes arriving every Wednesday until the finale on May 20, 2026.
Starlight Drops the Flight 37 Bomb
The season 5 premiere opens with Annie January (Starlight) sneaking into a Vought shareholder event. She dresses as a Firecracker extra and gets help from two tech supporters to release the Flight 37 video publicly. This is the footage from season 1 where Homelander let a plane full of people die.
The video plays on the big screen while Homelander is speaking. The crowd sees the truth. But Sister Sage steps in fast. Vought calls the video fake AI-generated content. The PR spin works, and most people believe it.
Two technicians helping Starlight die when Black Noir II finds them. Annie fights him off and escapes, but the damage is done. Homelander knows the video is real, and he is furious.
Freedom Camps and Homelander Trap
A full year has passed between season 4 and season 5. Hughie Campbell, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are locked up in a “freedom camp.” These are Vought-controlled prisons where Homelander sends anyone who supports Starlight or speaks against him.
Homelander orders their execution. But he does not actually want them dead. He wants to trap Billy Butcher and Starlight. He knows they will try to break their friends out.
Kimiko got deported to another country after being captured. Butcher finds her in Manila and tells her about the execution order. They return to the US and meet Annie at her secret hideout. She is shocked to hear Kimiko speak for the first time.
A-Train Makes a Choice
Annie and Kimiko visit A-Train to ask for help. Reggie Franklin has been moving his family around the world to keep them safe from Vought. He says no at first. He knows he cannot outrun Homelander.
But The Deep keeps finding A-Train’s family. At his brother’s home in France, A-Train’s nephew notices birds flying in a strange pattern. The Deep is tracking them again. A-Train moves his family to another safe spot and confronts the Deep.
The Deep tells A-Train he will keep hunting his family until they are dead. That is when A-Train realizes running will never work. He changes his mind and joins the rescue mission.
The Freedom Camp Breakout
Worm, a fired Vought writer with supe powers, helps Butcher dig a tunnel into the camp. Worm eats dirt and pushes it out the other end. It is gross but effective.
Inside the camp, Homelander holds Hughie, M.M., and Frenchie hostage. He knew about their escape plan the whole time. The execution order was just bait.
Annie drains electricity from the camp to power up. She flies Frenchie and Kimiko out first. When Homelander aims his heat vision at Hughie, A-Train zooms in and saves him. He runs off to draw Homelander away from the others.
The chase ends badly. Homelander catches A-Train and snaps his neck. Before dying, A-Train calls Homelander pathetic. The first episode ends with his death.
Soldier Boy Wakes Up
The second episode opens with a memorial service for A-Train. Oh Father (played by Daveed Diggs) says a prayer. Homelander stands in the crowd and looks almost emotional. He killed A-Train, but he seems to regret it. Later, he talks to A-Train’s casket alone and wonders why bad things keep happening to him.
Homelander decides to wake up Soldier Boy. He opens the cryochamber where Soldier Boy has been frozen. When Soldier Boy wakes up, he is confused to find Homelander there. He asks if Homelander “made love to him.” Homelander says no.
Homelander tells Soldier Boy the whole world thinks he is a Russian spy. He offers him a spot on The Seven if he helps hunt down Butcher. Soldier Boy does not trust him at first. But Homelander reminds him that he hates Butcher more. Soldier Boy takes his shield back and agrees to help.
Testing the Supe-Killing Virus
Butcher plans to test the supe-killing virus on Rock Hard, a member of the teen supe team Teenage Kix. Rock Hard is indestructible. If the virus kills him, it should work on Homelander.
But Rock Hard has turned into a giant rock mountain. He communicates through a computer that tracks his eye movements. He holds his breath so the virus cannot get inside him. The Boys realize they cannot move him.
Frenchie notices Rock Hard watching mountain pornography on TV. Rock Hard shoots volcanic liquid at Annie. Frenchie pushes her out of the way just in time. That liquid is what turned him into a rock blob.
Meanwhile, M.M. finds Countess Crow in her bedroom recording a makeup tutorial. She can talk to crows. M.M. catches one of her birds and locks it in a closet. She gives up and lets him tie her up.
Soldier Boy Attacks
Butcher, Hughie, and Kimiko drive to get the virus from Dr. Sameer Shah. Sameer warns them the virus could kill every supe on the planet. He is not sure if it would kill humans too.
On the way back, Soldier Boy’s shield crashes through their windshield. The virus vial flies into the air. Hughie catches it before it breaks. Soldier Boy shoots Butcher in the chest.
Butcher tells Soldier Boy that Homelander lied to him. He says Homelander sent him on a suicide mission because he is afraid of the virus. Soldier Boy does not believe him at first. Butcher throws a car at him and runs.
Jetstreak and Sheline, two other Teenage Kix members, hear the fight and join Soldier Boy. Sheline fights Kimiko. Jetstreak grabs Hughie and flies up high, then drops him. Starlight flies in and catches Hughie before he hits the ground.
The Virus Is Released
Back at the Teenage Kix house, Frenchie holds the real virus container. The one Hughie had was a fake. Frenchie releases the virus on Soldier Boy, Jetstreak, and Rock Hard. All three seem to die.
Homelander flies in and mourns his father, Soldier Boy. He turns his back. But Soldier Boy wakes up. The virus did not finish him off. The episode ends with a clear warning: the supe-killing virus might not be strong enough to stop Homelander.
