Netflix is getting ready to release its first Korean young adult horror series, and the show brings a fresh group of rising actors to tell this deadly story. If Wishes Could Kill follows high school students who download a wish-granting app called Girigo, only to learn that getting what you want comes with a fatal price tag. Jeon So-young Takes the Lead as Yoo Se-ah
Jeon So-young plays Yoo Se-ah, a promising track-and-field athlete at Seorin High School. Her character becomes the driving force of the story after her friend dies under mysterious circumstances. Se-ah refuses to ignore the truth and starts digging into the dark secrets of the Girigo app. As a determined student who uncovers the connection between the app and the sudden death of a classmate, Se-ah finds herself becoming a target when she chases after the app’s hidden dangers.
Jeon So-young is an emerging actress taking on her first major lead role in a Netflix series. Her character also shares a romantic connection with Kim Geon-woo, played by Baek Sun-ho, which adds another layer of tension as the curse threatens everyone around her.
Kang Mi-na Brings Na-ri to Life
Kang Mi-na plays Lim Na-ri, a beautiful and popular student admired for her idol-like looks. Baek Sun-ho takes on the role of Kim Geon-woo, Se-ah’s boyfriend who watches helplessly as their world falls apart when she becomes obsessed with uncovering the curse’s secrets. His character struggles between supporting his girlfriend and trying to keep them both safe from the deadly app.
Baek Sun-ho has appeared in dramas like Between Him and Her and Dongjae, The Good Or The Bastard. His character adds emotional weight to the story as the boyfriend who witnesses the people around him get pulled into the nightmare.
Hyun Woo-seok Joins as the Tech Genius Ha-joon
Hyun Woo-seok plays Kang Ha-joon, the smart strategist and tech genius of the group. He uses his coding skills to try and figure out how the Girigo app works and looks for any possible way to break the curse. His analytical mind makes him the group’s best hope for finding a technical solution to their supernatural problem.
Hyun Woo-seok has been in series such as Time to Be Strong, Dolphin, and Cheer Up. His character Ha-joon is described as the analytical brain of the friend group, and his sister Ha-sal, played by Jeon So-ni, also appears in the series.
Lee Hyo-je Rounds Out the Main Five
Lee Hyo-je plays Choi Hyeong-wook, a mischievous prankster whose life changes completely after he makes a wish on the Girigo app. The teaser trailer opens with Hyeong-wook holding a box cutter in the middle of class while an ominous red timer ticks down on his phone, showing just how dangerous the app can turn an ordinary student.
Lee Hyo-je has worked on projects including Hunted, Lost, and The Loop. His character serves as a warning to viewers about what can happen when someone makes a wish without thinking about the consequences.
Supporting Cast Adds Depth to the Story
The series also features Jeon So-ni and Noh Jae-won in supporting roles that anchor the story. Jeon So-ni plays Ha-sal, Ha-joon’s sister, while Noh Jae-won takes on the role of Bang Ui the Shaman, who gets brought in to help the students fight back against the supernatural curse. These supporting characters add more layers to the story as the students desperately try to find any way to break free from the app’s deadly grip.
Director Park Youn-seo Leads the Creative Team
Behind the camera, director Park Youn-seo helms the series. He previously served as second unit director on Kingdom Season 2 and co-directed the hit action drama Moving. The script comes from writer Park Joong-seop, and the series is produced by CJ ENM Studios and Kairos Makers.
