Kim Ji Eun, known for her versatile performances, has shared her thoughts on her upcoming drama, Check in Hanyang, a historical romance set in the Joseon era. The series is slated to premiere on December 21 at 7:50 p.m. KST.
Drama Overview
Check in Hanyang follows the lives of four young individuals navigating challenges at Yongcheonlu, the most prestigious inn in Joseon. Kim Ji Eun stars as Hong Deok Soo, a woman disguising herself as a man to uncover the truth about her father’s death. Opposite her, Bae In Hyuk plays Lee Eun Ho, a prince concealing his true identity.
Kim Ji Eun described the drama as a tale of self-discovery, youth, and hidden identities. “It’s the story of Deok Soo, who disguises herself as a man for a certain reason, and what unfolds between four youths—including Deok Soo—at Yongcheonlu, the grandest hotel in Joseon,” she explained.
Kim Ji Eun’s First Historical Drama
The drama marks a milestone for Kim Ji Eun, being her first venture into the historical genre and her first role as a woman disguised as a man. The actress shared her excitement about stepping into new territory:
“It’s my first historical drama, and I also found the premise of a woman disguising herself as a man intriguing, so I wanted to be part of the production.”
Unveiling Deok Soo’s Character
Hong Deok Soo is a resilient woman who faces numerous challenges after the death of her father. Her determination leads her to carve out new opportunities while concealing her grief behind a cheerful demeanor. Speaking about the character, Kim Ji Eun said:
“Deok Soo is a character who, when she’s going through a hard time, doesn’t let it show and instead overcomes [her struggles] cheerfully and pluckily. I found that aspect of the character very cool.”
When asked how similar she is to her character, the actress remarked:
“I’m fairly plucky myself, but I think Deok Soo is braver and pluckier than I am.”
A New Chapter in Kim Ji Eun’s Career
This drama represents a significant step forward in Kim Ji Eun’s acting journey. “Through this drama, I wanted to show that Kim Ji Eun can pull off a variety of genres,” she noted, adding, “I think Check in Hanyang will remain with me as a new challenge and a step forward in my growth.”
