Comedian Alan Carr was crowned the winner of the first-ever Celebrity Traitors in a dramatic finale that left his fellow contestants in shock. The final episode, which aired on November 6, 2025, saw Carr successfully deceive the remaining Faithfuls to win the entire £87,500 prize fund for his chosen charity.
The finale reached a nail-biting conclusion as the final three players—Alan Carr, historian David Olusoga, and actor Nick Mohammed—chose to end the game, believing no Traitors remained. It was then that an emotional Carr revealed his true identity, declaring, “I am and have always been a Traitor.” He was comforted by Olusoga and Mohammed, who acknowledged his skillful gameplay, saying, “You did brilliantly.” The win marks a victory for the Traitors, with only one of the three non-celebrity UK series also having been won by a Traitor.
The Final Challenge and Prize Fund
The episode began with a cinematic final mission designed to increase the prize money. The five finalists boarded a steam train and had 20 minutes to retrieve gold bars from five carriages before the train reached the end of the line and exploded. The group succeeded in the high-pressure task, adding £20,000 to the prize pot, bringing the total to £87,500.
Carr dedicated his winnings to Neuroblastoma UK, a children’s cancer charity. He shared that the money would make a significant impact, stating, “I told one person at the charity and they started crying, so that gives you some idea of how important this money will be to them. Neuroblastoma is such a cruel disease, and this money will literally save lives.”
The Decisive Roundtable
The path to victory was secured during the final roundtable, where the game took a stunning turn. Singer Cat Burns, the other remaining Traitor, was the first to be banished. However, she left without revealing her identity, keeping the focus away from Carr.
The crucial moment came when faithful Joe Marler, a former England rugby player who had been actively hunting the Traitors, was wrongly banished. Marler had been suspicious of Carr and Burns but was ultimately outmaneuvered. He expressed his frustration after being banished, saying, “It hurts to be stabbed in the back at the last minute, I’m gutted!” With Marler gone, the remaining players—Carr, Olusoga, and Mohammed—voted to end the game, sealing Carr’s triumph.
A Leaked Finale and Record Audience
The finale’s suspense was almost spoiled for some viewers when the episode was accidentally released online more than 24 hours before its UK airtime. Viewers in Canada and New Zealand reported being able to watch the full episode on streaming services before it was quickly pulled. Despite the leak, the finale proved to be a massive ratings success.
The episode became the most-watched TV event of the year in the UK. It was watched by 11.1 million people on the BBC, with viewership peaking at over 12 million. This made it the most-viewed episode in the history of the UK version of The Traitors.
Celebrity Traitors: A National Phenomenon
The first celebrity series of The Traitors has been a television phenomenon. With an average of 12.6 million viewers across its first four episodes, the show became a national talking point. The series featured 19 celebrities competing to win money for charity, with three contestants—Jonathan Ross, Cat Burns, and Alan Carr—secretly selected as the Traitors at the start of the game.
The show was noted for the “ineptitude” of the Faithfuls, who only managed to banish two Traitors throughout the entire series. This is in stark contrast to the three non-celebrity series, where five Traitors were typically banished.
Reaction and Fallout
On the companion show Uncloaked, the banished contestants reacted to Carr’s win. Joe Marler humorously yelled “scumbags!” at Nick Mohammed and David Olusoga for their pivotal decision to trust Carr. Nick Mohammed explained their misjudgment, noting, “He was just so convincing throughout. Alan is incredibly persuasive, and because he’s so relaxed, and he is so Alan. He was just so convincing throughout the whole game.”
Carr himself revealed that even his agent had little faith in his ability to last in the game, having booked other work for him for the second week of filming. His victory, achieved through a combination of strategy and charm, has set a high bar for future seasons. A new season of the civilian version of The Traitors is scheduled to return in January 2026.
