Channel 5’s new period drama drops major bombshells as Jo discovers he’s a father of twins and Soames makes his move on Irene. Here is everything that happened in Episode 2.

The second episode of The Forsytes brought the heat for the wealthy family on Sunday night. Secrets that were buried for a decade came rushing back. While Jo Forsyte (Danny Griffin) found out he has twin children with an old flame, his cousin Soames (Joshua Orpin) decided to throw caution to the wind for a woman he barely knows. The episode, which aired on March 29, 2026, on Channel 5 in the UK and PBS in the US, set up a lot of trouble for almost everyone in the family.

Jo Discovers His Secret Family With Louisa

Jo could not stop thinking about Louisa Byrne (Eleanor Tomlinson). After seeing her at June’s birthday ball, he remembered their time together in Venice ten years ago. The show used flashbacks to show their happy days, where Jo painted and Louisa was his muse. But their romance ended because of their different social positions—she worked as a lady’s maid, and he came from a rich family.

Jo went to find Louisa at her dress shop late at night. She tried to send him away, but he kept coming back. On his second visit during the day, Jo saw two children playing inside. The boy, Jos (Dexter Seaton), and the girl, Holly (Tilly Walker), looked just like him. Jo quickly understood the truth.

Louisa told Jo that she never reached out because she saw herself as just a temporary part of his life. When she found out he married Frances, she decided to raise the twins alone, telling everyone their father died before they were born.

Jo broke down in tears when he met his children for the first time. He introduced himself as a friend. Louisa asked him to leave through the back door and never return. But the damage was done. Jo went home and told his wife, Frances (Tuppence Middleton), everything.

Frances Already Knew the Truth

Frances surprised Jo by saying she already knew about the children. She had visited Louisa earlier and made a deal with her to keep the secret. Frances worried that the news would destroy Jo’s chance to become the head of the family business. James Forsyte (Jack Davenport) was already trying to replace Jo with Soames at the firm.

Frances made Jo promise to keep quiet until the vote was over. She begged him not to throw away everything they worked for. Jo agreed, but he said he could not pretend his children did not exist. Their daughter June (Justine Moore) was listening outside the door and heard the whole conversation.

June felt betrayed. She guessed that the glass bird figurine Jo always kept came from Louisa. She left the bird behind and walked away from her father.

Soames Tells Irene He Loves Her

While Jo dealt with his past, Soames focused on his future. He kept spending time with Irene Heron (Millie Gibson), a young woman who wants to become a ballet dancer in Paris. Irene sold her jewelry to pay for an audition. She told Soames she was leaving for Paris in one month.

Soames took Irene on a boat ride and picnic by the river. He listened to her dreams and encouraged her to go. Then he surprised her. Soames said he had never felt love until he met her. He asked her to marry him.

Soames told Irene he could not imagine a life without her. He offered to release her from the engagement if she felt trapped. But if she said yes, he promised they would go to Paris together and plan their future.

Irene looked shocked by the proposal. She did not give an answer right away. But Soames seemed sure that he had found the right woman, even though his family expected him to marry someone from a wealthy background like Olivia Carteret (Tallulah Evans).

June Meets a New Man

June wanted no part of her family’s matchmaking plans. Her mother Frances set her up with Horatio (George Lammiman), a boring young man who reads a lot. At the opera, June ran into Philip Bosinney (Jamie Flatters), a young socialist who gave her a pamphlet about the Fabian Society. June seemed interested in Philip, which could create more problems for the family later.

Business and Secrets Collide

At the family firm, James pushed for a vote to make Soames the chairman instead of Jo. He also backed a gold mine investment in Ceylon that used imported workers. Jo said no to the deal, calling it a risk and a gamble. But after Jo left the room, the other partners agreed to move forward with the investment.

James saw Jo leaving Louisa’s shop and started to suspect the truth. With secrets coming out on all sides, the Forsyte family looks ready to break apart.

The Forsytes airs Sundays on Channel 5 in the UK and PBS in the United States. New episodes are available to stream after they air.
