Fans of the Alien universe can celebrate. Alien: Earth, the television series set in the iconic sci-fi world, has been officially renewed for a second season. The renewal comes as part of a significant new partnership between the show’s creator, Noah Hawley, and FX and Disney Entertainment Television. The new overall deal, reported to be worth nine figures, ensures that Hawley will continue to expand the Alien story on television while also developing new projects across Disney’s platforms. Production for the next chapter will relocate from Thailand to London and is scheduled to begin in 2026.

The New Deal and Season 2 Plans

The announcement of Alien: Earth Season 2 was bundled with the news of Noah Hawley’s massive new overall deal with FX and Disney. This partnership extension solidifies a creative relationship that has lasted for over a decade, producing acclaimed shows like Fargo and Legion.

FX Chairman John Landgraf expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the collaboration. โ€œIt has been our great privilege to work with Noah for more than a decade on some of FXโ€™s best and biggest shows, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership well into the future,โ€ Landgraf said. โ€œNoah never stops surprising us with truly original storiesโ€” and his unique ability to bring them to vibrant life as a director and producer as well as writer makes him extraordinary. We canโ€™t wait to get to work on the next season of Alien: Earth.โ€

A key change for the new season is the move in production. While the first season was filmed in Thailand, production for Season 2 is set to begin next year in London. This shift suggests a potential new setting for the story, which is set approximately two decades before the events of the original 1979 film. Hawley had previously indicated that the first season’s cliffhanger ending was always part of a larger plan, noting the story was designed to continue for multiple seasons.

A Look Back at a Successful First Season

The first season of Alien: Earth debuted on FX in August and was met with a strong positive response from both critics and audiences. The series holds an impressive 94% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Must-Watch score of 85 on Metacritic. This critical success demonstrated that Hawley’s vision successfully translated the suspense and terror of the Alien films to the television format.

The series, which adapts the film franchise for television for the first time, was made with the strong support of Ridley Scottโ€™s Scott Free Productions. The story follows a young synthetic woman named Wendy, played by Sydney Chandler, and a group of soldiers who encounter the universe’s most terrifying creature after a spaceship crash-lands on Earth. The show featured an expansive ensemble cast, including Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, and Essie Davis.

Eric Schrier, President of Disney Television Studios, highlighted Hawley’s unique talent. โ€œI learned first-hand that Noah was a unique talent while we worked on Fargo at FX. He has gone on to make many of the best shows in television, and I couldnโ€™t be more excited that Noah will continue his FX partnership and broaden it across Disney Entertainment Television.โ€

What This Means for the Future

For viewers, this renewal promises a continuation of the story that ended on a cliffhanger. Hawley had previously stated that he knew where the story was headed and was ready to move forward the moment the project was approved. โ€œThe moment they fire the starting gun, Iโ€™m out of the block,โ€ he said in a recent interview.

The new deal also opens doors for Hawley beyond the world of Alien. The agreement allows him to develop new television projects not just for FX, but across all of Disney Entertainment Television, which includes platforms like ABC and Hulu Originals. Hawley shared his excitement about the expanded opportunities. โ€œIโ€™m thrilled that this expanded deal opens the door to new opportunities across all of Disney Entertainment Television. FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling. From the very beginning with Fargo, theyโ€™ve encouraged me to take creative risks and follow the story wherever it leads.โ€

The series will continue to be available to stream on FX and Hulu in the United States, with international audiences watching on Disney+. While a specific release date for the second season has not been announced, the confirmation of a 2026 production start provides a clear timeline for the show’s return.

โ€œIโ€™m grateful to continue exploring the world of Alien: Earth alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter,โ€ said Noah Hawley.
