The beloved PBS dramedy All Creatures Great and Small has wrapped up its sixth season with an emotional final episode that had viewers reaching for tissues. The episode, titled Our Hearts Are Full, aired on Channel 5 on October 30, 2025 in the UK and introduced several new faces to the Yorkshire Dales while giving fans a satisfying conclusion to this chapter of the Skeldale family story .

Set in 1945 as World War II finally comes to an end, the finale followed Tristan Farnon (Callum Woodhouse) as he confronted the trauma of his war experiences, while the whole village came together to celebrate VJ Day. The episode brought both joy and heartache, with several guest stars making memorable appearances alongside the regular cast .

Main Cast Returns for Emotional Finale

The core Skeldale House family were all present for the season’s concluding episode. Nicholas Ralph returned as James Herriot, the gentle veterinarian who continues to find himself in challenging situations. In the finale, James teamed up with Richard Alderson to solve the mystery of a missing newborn calf, showing his dedication to the animals and farmers of Darrowby .

Samuel West delivered a powerful performance as Siegfried Farnon, who finally learns the painful truth about what his brother Tristan experienced during the war. West’s portrayal of a worried older brother trying to connect with a traumatized younger sibling struck a chord with audiences .

Anna Madeley continued to shine as Mrs. Audrey Hall, the housekeeper who keeps Skeldale House running smoothly. In the finale, Mrs. Hall took a central role in organizing the VJ Day celebrations while also providing quiet support to both Farnon brothers when they needed it most .

Callum Woodhouse as Tristan Farnon had his most dramatic storyline yet, finally opening up about the traumatic event that earned him the Military Cross but cost him his closest friend. His emotional confession scene in the village church with Siegfried was the emotional core of the episode .

Rachel Shenton appeared as Helen Herriot, though her role was somewhat reduced in the finale as the episode focused more on the Farnon brothers and the village celebrations. James and Helen’s son Jimmy, played by Thomas Richards, had several sweet scenes with his father as they watched the victory fireworks together .

Guest Stars Bring New Faces to Darrowby

Bernard Wrigley as Elijah Wentworth

Veteran actor Bernard Wrigley appeared as Elijah Wentworth, a local farmer who owns a shire horse named Weissmuller. Elijah is described as a man of few words, which frustrates the talkative Siegfried to no end. When Tristan and Siegfried visit his farm to check on the horse, Tristan’s sudden departure leaves Siegfried confused and concerned .

Wrigley is an English singer, actor, and comedian well-known for his folk music and his roles in British television. He has appeared in popular shows including Phoenix Nights, Emmerdale, Coronation Street, and Shameless. His portrayal of the quiet farmer added a touch of authentic Yorkshire character to the episode .

Cat Simmons as Grace Chapman

Cat Simmons joined the cast as Grace Chapman, an old friend of Mrs. Hall’s who arrives in Darrowby during the celebrations. The 45-year-old English actress is best known for her role as DC Kezia Walker in The Bill, a part that made her a familiar face to British TV viewers .

Simmons has also appeared in Family Affairs and Life and Lyrics, bringing years of experience to her role as Grace. Her character provides a connection to Mrs. Hall’s past and offers Audrey someone to talk to during the festive celebrations .

Lamin Touray as Tom Chapman

Lamin Touray played Tom Chapman, Grace’s son who has recently returned from the war. Tom is struggling to readjust to civilian life, a parallel to Tristan’s own difficulties. The British Gambian actor from Manchester brought depth to the role of a young man finding it hard to reconnect with everyday life after the trauma of combat .

Touray is recognizable to soap fans for his role as Ashley Hardcastle in Coronation Street. He has also made guest appearances in Waterloo Road, Doctors, and Everything I Know About Love, building a solid resume of British television work .

Familiar Faces Return

The finale also brought back several characters who have become familiar to viewers throughout the season. Tony Pitts appeared as Richard Alderson, Helen’s father, who has a subplot involving a missing calf and a disconnected telephone that frustrates James to no end. Richard’s stubborn but good-hearted nature provided both comedy and heart in the episode .

Mollie Winnard returned as Maggie, the local woman who helps with the celebrations and mentions seeing Tristan at the church, setting up the emotional confrontation between the Farnon brothers. Maggie has become a steady presence in the village throughout the series .

Gaia Wise continued her role as Charlotte Beauvoir, Tristan’s romantic interest. In the finale, Charlotte and Tristan must confront the reality that his leave is ending and he must return to war. Their relationship has been a highlight of season six, offering Tristan a glimpse of happiness amid the darkness .

What Happened in the Finale

The episode began with Tristan and Charlotte enjoying a picnic, aware that his time at home is running out. Meanwhile, James visited Richard Alderson and discovered a cow with a puzzling condition. The visit to Elijah Wentworth’s farm proved difficult when Tristan suddenly fled, unable to handle being near the horse .

When the news of Japan’s surrender arrived, the village erupted in celebration. But Tristan remained haunted by his war memories. In a powerful scene at the church, Siegfried finally learned the truth: Tristan received his Military Cross for trying to save soldiers after their camp came under fire, but he couldn’t save his friend Billy, who died saving Tristan’s life in a minefield .

The episode balanced this heavy emotional content with lighter moments. James and young Jimmy worked with Richard and Tom to find the missing calf, successfully reuniting it with its mother. And Tristan eventually found the courage to face Weissmuller the horse, with Siegfried’s help, symbolizing his first step toward healing .

The episode ended with the whole village gathering on the hill to light a beacon, watching other fires spark across the valley as peace finally returned to the world .
