The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy makes a surprise appearance in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic sequel.

Who is Anya Taylor-Joy?

Anya Taylor-Joy is a 27-year-old actress who rose to fame with her roles in The Witch, Split, Emma, and The Queen’s Gambit. She has won several awards, including a Golden Globe, a SAG Award, and an Emmy nomination. She is also set to star in Furiosa, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, which will hit theaters on May 24.

What is her role in Dune: Part 2?

Anya Taylor-Joy’s involvement in Dune: Part Two was kept secret until the film’s world premiere in London on Thursday, February 15. She walked the red carpet with her fashion-forward cast mates, wearing an Arrakis-appropriate outfit. She confirmed her participation in the film in a live-streamed interview, but did not reveal the name of her character. She said, “This is a dream come true. The books are incredible, but with this cast and with Denis, it doesn’t get any better than that.” She also praised the film as “one of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”

While the filmmakers are unwilling to spoil her role, some fans have speculated that she is playing Alia Atreides, the younger sister of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul. Alia is a major character in the Dune franchise, who has psychic abilities and a complex destiny. Taylor-Joy’s cameo in Dune: Part Two suggests that she will have a more substantial role in a possible third film, which has not been confirmed yet, but reportedly has a nearly completed script.

How did she join the cast?

According to director Denis Villeneuve, it was not easy to keep Anya Taylor-Joy’s role a secret. He told EW, “It required so much work to keep that secret…Everybody signed with their blood.” He also revealed that he had been a fan of Taylor-Joy since he saw her in The Witch, and that he was impressed by her performance in The Queen’s Gambit. He said, “She’s a very powerful actress, very charismatic, very intense. I thought she would be perfect for that part.”

Anya Taylor-Joy was not the only new addition to the cast of Dune: Part Two. Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux, Souheila Yacoub and Christopher Walken also joined the ensemble, alongside the returning stars from the first film, such as Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, and Javier Bardem.

When and where can we watch the film?

Dune: Part Two is the sequel to the 2021 sci-fi adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel. It continues the story of Paul Atreides, a young man who leads a rebellion against a tyrannical empire on a desert planet. The film is expected to be a visual spectacle, with stunning cinematography, costumes, and special effects. It will hit theaters on March 1, and will also be available to stream on HBO Max for 31 days after its theatrical release.
