The K-pop industry is facing another serious controversy as a songwriter behind some of BLACKPINK’s biggest hits has come forward with explosive allegations against their former agency. Bekuh Boom, the 32-year-old American composer who co-wrote BLACKPINK songs like “DDU-DU DDU-DU” and “Kill This Love,” has accused YG Entertainment of forcing her to have an abortion when she was in her early 20s. She also claims the BLACKPINK members knew about her mistreatment and did nothing to help.
What Bekuh Boom Says Happened To Her Under YG Entertainment
Bekuh Boom, whose real name is Rebecca Rose Johnson, shared her story through a series of TikTok videos posted over the last few days. She explained that she moved to South Korea around 2012 when she was 18 years old to work in the music industry. She was promised a recording contract and began working closely with YG Entertainment, the agency behind BIGBANG, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK.
In her videos, Bekuh Boom said the company used the promise of a contract to control her for several years. She described experiencing verbal abuse during this time. But the most serious claim came when she talked about getting pregnant. She said that when she informed the company about her pregnancy around age 23, she was told that having the baby would end her career and her life. She was forced to end the pregnancy.
“I was told that if I had the baby, my career and my life would be over, and I was asked to have an abortion,” she stated in her TikTok video. After refusing to go through with the abortion at first, she eventually returned to the United States. For two years, she said the company did not contact her.
The BLACKPINK Connection: Typa Girl and Lisa’s Money
Bekuh Boom’s accusations did not stop with the agency. She also directed criticism toward BLACKPINK members. She revealed that during her last trip to South Korea, while working on the song “Typa Girl” from BLACKPINK’s 2022 album “Born Pink,” the disrespect toward her became impossible to ignore.
She recalled a specific moment in the studio when a man involved in the project told her something that stuck with her. The person said: “Bekuh, we have access to all the writers and producers in the world. Like, we could work with anybody we want, but we choose to work with you because you’re willing to accept less.” She said she was shocked and brought it up to someone she had worked with on many songs, but the situation was brushed aside.
Bekuh Boom also claimed that Lisa’s solo hit “Money” was released without her knowledge. She said no one asked her about the release or cleared it with her beforehand. When the payment splits came, she felt the distribution was unfair. She mentioned that for “Money,” she received 40%, while for “Typa Girl,” she received 55%. She expressed frustration that the company was willing to pay extra to other collaborators who had done less for the group than she had.
‘They Were All In On It’: Bekuh Boom Says BLACKPINK Members Ignored Her
One of the most talked-about parts of Bekuh Boom’s allegations involves her claims about the BLACKPINK members. When a fan suggested she reach out to Lisa, who now runs her own agency, Bekuh Boom responded directly. She said none of the members wanted to help her or acknowledge what she was going through.
She wrote: “They didn’t care about me. No one helped me. They were all in on it.” She also liked a comment from another user that said the BLACKPINK members should have stood up for her. This action was seen by many as her agreement that the members knew about the mistreatment but chose to stay silent.
“There was no one who wanted to help me or acknowledge me. They all knew and were all involved.”
Mixed Reactions: Support for Bekuh Boom and Doubts About Her Claims
Since Bekuh Boom shared her videos, the internet has been divided. Many fans and social media users have expressed shock and anger. Some have called out YG Entertainment for what they see as a pattern of mistreatment. Comments have also criticized the BLACKPINK members, with some saying they should have spoken up if they knew what was happening to the songwriter behind their music.
One user wrote: “Bekuh Boom exposing YG’s lowball offers is insane. It really makes you question whether that stinginess with producers is exactly why BLACKPINK’s sound shifted. This proves that YG is simply refusing to invest properly in the group.” Another person added: “No wonder Lisa and other members left this company.”
However, there is also a significant group of people who are questioning Bekuh Boom’s motives. Since she sold the rights to 33 of her songs, including many BLACKPINK hits, to the music IP company Beyond Music in August 2025, some wonder if the timing of these allegations is related to money or rights disputes. Critics point out that her claims are one-sided and have not been backed by evidence so far.
