The tvN drama Siren’s Kiss has wrapped up its run, and Wi Ha Joon is opening up about the project’s deeper meaning. While the mystery thriller kept viewers guessing about the real culprit behind the insurance fraud deaths, the actor found something more meaningful at the heart of the show.

In a recent end-of-series interview, Wi Ha Joon shared his honest thoughts about what made Siren’s Kiss special to him. His answer goes beyond the usual talk about action scenes or romantic moments.

Wi Ha Joon Explains Why Siren’s Kiss Ending Stood Out

Wi Ha Joon did not hold back when asked about his favorite part of the drama. He pointed directly to the ending and the show’s core message.

The thing I love most about this project is the ending. While the drama revolves around catching the real culprit, the conclusion tells a story about people and salvation. I think that’s its biggest appeal, and I’m pleased with how well it was expressed.

The actor also admitted that Siren’s Kiss was never meant to be a massive commercial hit. He called it a mystery drama that built a dedicated but smaller fanbase. And for him, that was completely fine.

Wi Ha Joon played Cha Woo Seok, an insurance fraud investigator known as the “Car Killer” for his relentless pursuit of criminals. His character starts out suspicious of Park Min Young’s character Han Seol Ah, a woman linked to several deaths. But as the story moves forward, both characters deal with their past wounds and find a way to heal each other.

Wi Ha Joon Lost 7kg for His Role in Siren’s Kiss

Getting into character for Siren’s Kiss took real work from Wi Ha Joon. He lost about 6 to 7 kilograms (around 13 to 15 pounds) to look sharper on screen.

The actor explained that he had gained weight before filming started. He noticed his jawline was gone and his eyes looked puffy. Since his character needed to express a lot through his eyes, he decided to slim down.

Wi Ha Joon changed his eating habits to lose weight the healthy way. He started eating breakfast every day with Greek yogurt, blueberries, soy milk, and eggs. He also cut out sugar completely. He does not drink alcohol or eat late-night snacks, but sugar was his weakness. Removing it from his diet became a healthy habit that he still follows.

The actor mentioned that this was the healthiest he has ever been while filming a project. Despite the heavy workload, he did not get sick easily like he usually does.

Wi Ha Joon on Looking Older and Doing School Dramas

Some viewers have commented that Wi Ha Joon looks older or more mature for his age. The actor said these comments have never bothered him. He believes looking mature is a bigger advantage for an actor than trying to appear young.

He even joked about doing school uniform dramas at this point in his career.

I think now, youth dramas where characters wear school uniforms seem like deceiving viewers. I feel like I would get criticized. So I think it would be difficult to do a school drama without the help of technology.

Instead of trying to look younger, Wi Ha Joon focuses on managing himself and thinking about how to age with more depth as an actor.

How Wi Ha Joon Prepared for Cha Woo Seok Role

To play an insurance fraud investigator, Wi Ha Joon did serious homework. He met real insurance investigators and watched documentaries about their work. He learned that many of them used to be detectives, so he studied how they dress, how they talk, and what kinds of cases they handle.

The actor also paid close attention to his character’s emotional journey. He laid out the entire script and carefully marked the exact moments where Cha Woo Seok’s feelings start to change. Then he tried to show those changes through small shifts in his eyes.

What Viewers Said About Siren’s Kiss

Fans of the show had strong reactions to Wi Ha Joon’s performance. Many praised his ability to handle different tones within the same drama.

One viewer wrote, “Wi Ha-joon does comedy, romance, and thriller all at once.” Another said, “I forgot how to breathe during the storage room confrontation.” The ending scenes also got attention, with some fans saying, “The ending gave me chills.”

Other viewers appreciated how the drama balanced its mystery elements with the growing bond between the two main characters. The chemistry between Wi Ha Joon and Park Min Young was a major talking point throughout the show’s run.

Wi Ha Joon Understands Lead Actor Pressure Better Now

Wi Ha Joon shared an honest moment about learning what it really means to be the lead actor. He remembered working with Ji Chang Wook on The Worst of Evil in the past. Back then, he was so focused on his own role that he did not see how much pressure Ji Chang Wook was carrying.

But while filming Siren’s Kiss, Wi Ha Joon struggled with the script every day. That struggle finally helped him understand how hard it must have been for his former co-star.

The actor admitted that he sometimes loses sleep worrying if he will keep getting chosen for roles as the industry gets more challenging. To deal with this pressure, he exercises, practices martial arts, lifts weights, studies English, and takes vocal lessons. He said working out helps clear his mind.

Siren’s Kiss aired on tvN and also streamed on Prime Video in multiple regions including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India. The complete series is now available for streaming.
