Kim Tae Ho, CEO of Belift Lab, addressed concerns about preferential treatment and discrimination among HYBE artists in a recent interview with OSEN. He claimed that NewJeans received extensive support and opportunities, countering allegations that the group had faced discrimination.
CEO Highlights Support for NewJeans
When asked about comparisons between NewJeans and ILLIT, including HYBE founder Bang Si Hyuk’s direct involvement in ILLIT’s production, Kim Tae Ho stated that NewJeans and their agency, ADOR, benefitted significantly from HYBE’s resources.
He shared:
“All the staff know that it was actually NewJeans and ADOR who received aggressive support in terms of promotions and brand collaborations. It’s hard for me to even name all the support they received as such.”
Example of Preferential Treatment
Kim Tae Ho also provided specific examples to support his claims. He explained how NewJeans were granted privileges that other artists did not receive:
“One of the small examples I can give you is that in our office building in Yongsan, artists have to make bookings to use a shared styling room when they need it. But from their second year on, NewJeans had their own exclusive styling room.”
He emphasized that the HYBE staff is well aware of the level of support NewJeans enjoyed:
“Whether they were discriminated against or if they received preferential treatment, all the HYBE staff knows about it well.”
Allegations of Discrimination
The interview comes amidst claims that NewJeans were previously treated unfairly. These allegations suggested the group had fewer opportunities and faced discrimination compared to other HYBE artists.
