Ben Affleck made a surprise appearance at the 2025 Next on Netflix event to tease his latest thriller RIP, which reunites him with longtime collaborator Matt Damon. The action-packed film, directed by Joe Carnahan, also stars Teyana Taylor, Steven Yeun, Sasha Calle, and Kyle Chandler. Affleck introduced the trailer for the movie, which is inspired by true events, to an excited crowd at The Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles on January 29.
A Thrilling Crime Drama
During his appearance, Affleck described RIP as a compelling crime thriller with elements of human drama. He noted that the film draws inspiration from classics like Heat, Narc, and Training Day. “This movie takes a look at the things people will do for money,” Affleck said, emphasizing the complex relationships and moral dilemmas at the heart of the story.
The film’s synopsis reveals a gripping plot: “Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including whom they can rely on.” The tension between the characters, as well as the exploration of loyalty and betrayal, sets the stage for a high-stakes narrative.
Affleck and Damon’s Partnership
This marks the seventh collaboration between Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, who co-founded their production company, Artists Equity. Affleck shared his excitement about the film, noting its significance to their careers. He described RIP as “a really fun, engaging ride that keeps you guessing,” highlighting the thrilling aspects of the story. He also emphasized how the film aligns with the values of Artists Equity, saying, “This is exactly the kind of film that we want to champion.”
Damon, who attended the event with Affleck, had previously spoken about the deep bond the two share and the joy of working together. In a 2023 interview, Damon reflected on their partnership, saying, “The only thing better is doing it together, in any capacity, whether he’s directing or whether we’re acting together or whether we’re producing together.”
The All-Star Cast
In addition to Affleck and Damon, RIP features an impressive ensemble cast, including Teyana Taylor, Steven Yeun, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino, Néstor Carbonell, and Kyle Chandler. This diverse group of talented actors adds depth to the film, with each bringing their unique skills to their roles.
A New Chapter for Artists Equity
Affleck and Damon’s production company, Artists Equity, has continued to grow and expand its reach, with RIP serving as one of its most important projects. The movie is also part of a growing partnership with Netflix, as the streaming giant looks to add more high-quality, engaging content to its platform.
