Fans of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days have strongly criticized Birkan after he revealed his significant debt to Laura, with many calling him a user and questioning his intentions for moving to America.

The conversation about money happened on Season 8, Episode 6 of the show. Laura seemed to learn for the first time how serious Birkan’s financial problems were. This discovery led to a tense discussion between the couple, where Laura’s worries grew as she learned more details.

Birkan’s Debt Admission And Laura’s Shock

During the episode, Birkan explained his financial situation to Laura. He talked about his past as a professional football player in Turkey and how a serious knee injury ended his career. After that, he started several businesses, but told Laura that “everything failed” and he could not find steady work.

Before their meeting, Laura knew Birkan had some money troubles, but she did not understand the full extent. “I had no idea how bad his financial situation actually is,” she admitted in a private interview. She was especially concerned because Birkan had often presented himself as a protective provider who would take care of her.

When Laura pointed out that his debts would become a shared problem if they built a life together, Birkan’s response alarmed her. He suggested that the debt would not matter if he left Turkey. “That’s my debt in this country. If I’m not in that country, who cares how much debt I’m in?” Birkan said. Laura asked him directly if his plan was to “run away from this massive amount of debt” by moving to another country.

Fans React To Birkan As A “Debt-Ridden Con Artist”

After the episode aired, viewers quickly shared their opinions on social media, mostly aiming their criticism at Birkan. The overall view was that Laura was being used for a chance to come to America.

One viewer posted, “So was Laura finally starting to see why I call BirKan BirCON? This guy was lying through his teeth! He is a debt-ridden con artist, a Turkish grifter who was clearly using her as his ticket to America. How could she be so dumb?”

Many comments focused on the apparent “red flags” Laura was ignoring. “How many red flags does Laura need???” one person asked. Another viewer summarized the situation as “Laura realizing Beercan is using her to run from her debts”. Some fans advised Laura to end the relationship, with comments like “Laura, cut your losses, head home, Birkan is NOT for you!” and “Okay Laura here is Your Massive Red Flag !!!”

Other fans questioned Laura’s choices from the beginning. “Laura is like you wanna run away from this massive amount of debt & flee to another country. I mean you went to Turkey to find a man. There are men in the USA,” one viewer wrote. Another stated bluntly, “Laura is a fool for coming to see Birkan and thinking of bringing him to the US it’s clear he wants her only for a greencard and money not her”.

Not all comments were negative toward Birkan. One fan noted his stated willingness to work hard if he comes to the U.S., posting, “Birkan saying he could take 2-3 jobs in the US to make sure that he can pay off his debt and take care of Laura”.

Birkan’s Other Relationship Concerns With Laura

The financial issue was not the only point of conflict between Birkan and Laura shown in Season 8. Birkan also expressed deep discomfort with Laura’s close friendship with a man named Michael, whom she met playing pickleball.

Birkan told his friends that Laura sometimes compares him to Michael, which he finds unacceptable. “This is what I’m afraid of,” he said. He admitted he does not trust Michael and feels their friendship is inappropriate. Birkan gave Laura an ultimatum, saying their relationship might not work if she does not end the friendship. This issue is set to be a focus in the upcoming episode titled “Brace for Impact,” aired on January 18, 2026.

Laura defended her friendship, explaining that while people might think they are a couple, Michael is just her best friend. “Everyone who has seen Michal and me interact would assume that we are either dating or are married… he really is just my best friend,” she said.
