The latest trailer for Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World has arrived, giving fans a first full look at Harrison Ford as the formidable Red Hulk. Known for iconic roles like Indiana Jones, Ford now steps into the Marvel universe, portraying President Thaddeus Ross, a character previously played by the late William Hurt. The trailer, released during D23 Expo in Brazil, has ignited fan excitement, showing Ross’s explosive transformation into the Red Hulk and hinting at a complex storyline involving political tension, mysterious villains, and high-stakes battles.
CHECK OUT TRAILER:
The film, directed by Julius Onah, will follow Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, as he faces one of his most dangerous adversaries yet. The trailer promises action-packed sequences, dramatic confrontations, and a host of new characters portrayed by renowned actors Giancarlo Esposito, Tim Blake Nelson, and Shira Haas.
Trailer Highlights: Red Hulk, Isaiah Bradley, and High-Stakes Action
The trailer opens with a scene featuring Sam Wilson (Mackie) visiting Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), a super-soldier from earlier Marvel storylines, in a prison cell. In a significant dialogue, Sam asks Bradley if he remembers his past actions, hinting at a critical event involving Bradley and President Ross. This scene foreshadows the tension between super-soldiers and the government, raising questions about control, accountability, and memory.
One of the trailer’s pivotal moments involves an intense scene where President Ross faces an assassination attempt. Ruth Bat-Seraph (Haas), a former Black Widow, briefs Ross, saying, “There were five shooters. This was a coordinated terrorist attack.” The incident points to complex political intrigue, with Ross revealing, “I was a wartime general. Now I’m a wartime president.” This line underscores the gravity of the escalating conflict, with Ross’s dual identity as both president and a gamma-powered force adding to the stakes.
Fans also catch a glimpse of Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), the new Falcon, in maritime battle scenes, dodging missiles as naval forces engage in a full-scale confrontation. Sam warns of looming global conflict, saying, “We’re on the brink of war.” Some of these scenes appear to be set near massive remains of a celestial from Marvel’s 2021 film Eternals, linking the events of Brave New World to the broader Marvel cinematic landscape.
Villains Rise: The Leader and Sidewinder Add to the Threat
The trailer also unveils the return of Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, last seen in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. In a menacing voiceover, The Leader taunts Captain America, questioning his loyalty and purpose: “Captain America, you ever ask yourself who’s playing who? You like to play dress-up and execute the state’s orders. You don’t even know what this is.” His words imply that there may be deeper layers of deception and manipulation within the story.
In addition, fans get their first look at Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder, a character who remains largely mysterious. In his initial scene, Sidewinder challenges Captain America directly, saying, “Captain America, caught without his wings,” while wielding a pistol. Sidewinder’s presence adds yet another layer of intrigue, as Esposito’s portrayal promises to bring the intensity and nuance he’s known for in past roles.
The climactic moment in the trailer captures Ross as he collapses at a White House press conference, visibly transforming into Red Hulk for the first time. His body is engulfed in a crimson glow as he emerges from flames in his new, monstrous form. Sam Wilson confronts him with a defiant stance, taunting, “You want me? Come and get me!” with Washington, D.C.’s cherry blossoms in full bloom behind them. The transformation scene showcases the scale of Ross’s powers and sets up an epic showdown between him and the new Captain America.
