The debate around Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming mythological drama Ramayana has been heating up ever since its trailer dropped. He referred to many online critics as “keyboard VFX superstars” and said these people do not really understand what the film offers.
“They are in dreamland. When you see Ramayana on the big screen, you will understand the scale. It is unfathomable. All these critics don’t understand the scale.”
Hansraj made it clear that the trailer does not do justice to the film’s grand vision. He believes audiences will only truly appreciate the scale and quality of the project when they watch it in theaters.
Actor Defends Ranbir Kapoor’s Casting as Lord Rama
One of the biggest points of debate has been Ranbir Kapoor playing the role of Lord Rama. Many social media users have questioned whether the actor is the right choice for such an iconic character.
Hansraj strongly supported the casting decision and praised Kapoor’s work in the film.
“I think the casting is fabulous. Ranbir as Ram is fabulous. I really like the manner in which he has carried off his look. Sai Pallavi is also very nice. Everyone has their opinion, but Namit Malhotra, Nitesh Tiwari and the team have done a lot of research for the looks and characters, and finalised the cast after a lot of deliberation.”
The actor highlighted that the filmmakers did not make any casual decisions. According to him, the team put in serious effort and research before locking the final cast.
Hansraj Praises Co-Stars and Filmmaking Team
Beyond defending the film, Chetan Hansraj had nothing but good things to say about his experience working on Ramayana. He praised the atmosphere on set and the professionalism of everyone involved.
He specifically mentioned Yash, who plays Raavana in the film, and called him a gentle and humble person to work with.
Hansraj also praised director Nitesh Tiwari for his respectful approach toward every cast and crew member.
“He is so gentle with every member of the cast and crew. Nitesh is very interested in understanding every role and guiding you to bring that on screen. Everyone on sets was so soft-spoken.”
The actor revealed that despite spending 47 years in the entertainment industry, the 20 days he shot for Ramayana were the best days of his entire career.

Hansraj emphasized that Ramayana is a project of massive scale. He mentioned that the film brings together top technical talent from around the world.
The production features Hollywood technicians, renowned action directors, and even Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer, along with Michael Grobe, who won an Oscar for Dune.
The actor said working alongside such high-caliber professionals was a phenomenal experience.
The film’s trailer, which released recently, gives audiences a glimpse of the epic story. It opens with Yash as Raavana conquering Lanka before introducing Ranbir Kapoor as Prince Rama. The narrative follows Rama’s exile and his journey alongside Sai Pallavi’s Sita and Ravi Dubey’s Lakshman.

The criticism surrounding Ramayana is not limited to VFX alone. Several public figures and industry insiders have also shared their views on the film’s casting.
Shiv Sagar, grandson of the late filmmaker Ramanand Sagar who created the iconic Ramayan television series, recently shared his concerns about Ranbir Kapoor’s casting. While he praised the film’s VFX and the casting of Sai Pallavi and Yash, he expressed doubts about Kapoor playing Lord Rama.
The film’s costume designers have also faced backlash, particularly regarding Sai Pallavi’s look as Sita. They have responded by explaining that their designs were based on personal interpretation rather than historical reconstruction.
