Chris Hemsworth has sparked concern among Marvel fans after releasing an emotional video reflecting on his 15-year journey as Thor. The video, titled Thank You! The Legacy of Thor, includes behind-the-scenes clips, interviews, and highlights from his time as the God of Thunder. Many fans believe this could hint at Thor’s death in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
The video features messages from co-stars like Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, and director Taika Waititi. Hemsworth also shared a heartfelt note thanking fans for their support. He wrote, “Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life… Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable. Next up, Doomsday!”
Fans quickly took to social media, fearing this might be a farewell before Thor’s possible death in Avengers: Doomsday. Some pointed out Hemsworth’s past comments about wanting to “close the book” on the character. Others noted that Avengers movies often feature major character deaths, like Iron Man and Black Widow.
“He’s definitely dying,” said actor Matt Ramos on X.
“Chris Hemsworth saying farewell to his legacy as Thor before Doomsday might be a spoiler for the character’s death,” wrote another fan.
The video was originally released in 2022 as part of Thor: Love and Thunder promotions. However, its re-release now, just as Avengers: Doomsday begins filming, has intensified speculation. The movie is set to release in December 2026 and will see Thor reunite with Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston.
Some fans are worried about how Thor’s potential death could impact the story.
“If they kill Thor before he reunites with Loki, or worse, if they kill him in front of Loki, I’ll have a heart attack at the movies,” one fan tweeted.
Others praised Hemsworth’s portrayal of Thor over the years.
“Couldn’t have a better actor than Chris himself,” read a YouTube comment.
“Please never walk away from this role. We all want you to stay,” another fan wrote.
Hemsworth has previously admitted that Thor: Love and Thunder didn’t meet expectations. He told Vanity Fair he felt he owed fans a better performance. This led to theories that Avengers: Doomsday could be his final chance to give Thor a proper send-off.
Marvel has not confirmed Thor’s fate, but the emotional tone of Hemsworth’s video has left fans bracing for the worst. Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production and will feature a star-studded cast, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
