Christie Brinkley, the famous supermodel, has opened up about her difficult divorce from her fourth husband, Peter Cook. In her new memoir, “Uptown Girl,” she describes the moment she found out about his affair with an 18-year-old girl. The news hit her like a “wrecking ball” and led to a long and painful legal battle.
Brinkley, now 71, says her marriage to Cook was the “most tortured relationship” she ever had. She reveals shocking details about how she discovered his betrayal and the emotional toll it took on her and their children.
How Christie Brinkley Found Out About Peter Cook’s Affair
In 2006, Brinkley was giving a graduation speech at a high school in the Hamptons when a stranger approached her. The man, who turned out to be a police officer, told her:
“I need to tell you that arrogant husband of yours has been having an affair with my teenage daughter.”
Brinkley was stunned. She looked into the crowd and saw Cook shaking his head, mouthing “no.” She immediately knew he was guilty.
“When your whole world falls apart and you realize in a heartbeat you’ve suddenly become the cliché middle-aged woman whose husband is having an affair with a much younger woman, what do you do?” she wrote.
That night, Brinkley and her friends searched their family computer. They found explicit photos, emails, and porn accounts linked to Cook.
“It was so insane that it was almost funny. Soon, the three of us were laughing as printouts of girls in X-rated poses piled up on the floor,” she recalled.
The Long and Ugly Divorce Battle
Brinkley filed for divorce in 2006, but the legal fight lasted six years. Cook admitted to the affair but claimed he was “seeking a connection” he couldn’t find in their marriage.
The case became a public spectacle. Cook went on TV, calling Brinkley a liar. She accused him of bullying, narcissism, and failing to pay child support. At one point, Brinkley tried to get a restraining order to keep him away from their kids.
“I had a prenup, a confidentiality agreement, and a civility clause—all useless against his lies and threats,” Brinkley said.
Despite the drama, Brinkley won full custody of their daughter Sailor and her son Jack, whom Cook had adopted.
