The final season of The Boys is almost here, and one of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind is about Ashley Barrett. After injecting herself with Compound V at the end of Season 4, the former Vought CEO is set to return with new abilities. Actress Colby Minifie recently shared new hints about what fans can expect from Ashley’s shocking transformation in Season 5, and it sounds anything but ordinary.
The fourth season finale left Ashley in a desperate situation. After overhearing The Deep suggest that she knew too much and needed to be eliminated, she made a quick and dangerous choice. She broke into Homelander’s apartment and injected herself with a vial of Compound V. The last image of her in Season 4 showed her screaming on the ground in pain, her wig falling off as her scalp began to move in strange ways. Now, as the show prepares for its final episodes, Minifie is opening up about what comes next for her character.
Colby Minifie Says Ashley’s New Powers Will Be ‘Perfect for Her’
In a recent interview, Minifie talked about Ashley’s journey into becoming a Supe. She made it clear that whatever power Ashley gets, it will fit the character’s personality in a very specific way. The actress hinted that the show’s creators have found something that matches Ashley perfectly, even if it is not glamorous.
“I can say that her power is perfect for her. I know it has to be humiliating, and I know it has to be disgusting. Those are the two requirements in the world of The Boys.”
Minifie explained that she has pitched several ideas to the writers, but all of them were designed to be embarrassing for Ashley. She understands that in the world of The Boys, getting superpowers is not always a cool or heroic moment. For someone like Ashley, who cares deeply about her image and control, having a gross or silly ability would be the worst possible outcome.
One of the ideas Minifie shared was related to hair. Given that Ashley has been secretly pulling out her own hair due to stress, and she wears a wig, a hair-related power would be a cruel joke.
“She pops her arm up and her armpit hair grows really fast and lassos people,” Minifie said about one of her suggestions. “I was thinking something hair-related would be really funny because of her baldness. But that might be too on the nose.”
What We Know About Ashley’s Transformation So Far
The Season 4 finale gave fans a small look at what was happening inside Ashley’s body. The show has a history of showing Compound V as a painful and unpredictable substance. When Hughie took Temp V, he experienced severe side effects. For Ashley, taking pure Compound V in such a rushed and panicked moment could lead to even stranger results.
Showrunner Eric Kripke has not given away exact details about Ashley’s powers. However, the clues from the show and Minifie’s comments point toward an ability that is both powerful and embarrassing. Some fan theories on social media suggest she might have Medusa-like hair powers, able to control and attack with her hair. Others think her power could be tied to her emotions, making her lose control when she gets scared or angry.
The actress also spoke about the physical process of becoming a Supe. She described how the show has always shown V entering the bloodstream and taking over the body. For Ashley, this process will be no different, but the final result remains a secret until the season airs.
“As we’ve seen, when V first enters your body, the historic visual on the show is that it enters your bloodstream and things start happening in your blood, and it takes over your body,” Minifie told Variety. “So what we’re hinting at is something’s going to happen! We don’t know if she survives or dies, but I have pitched some things of what her superpower could be — they’re all humiliating.”
Ashley’s New Role in the Final Season
Recent trailers for The Boys Season 5 have shown Ashley in a new setting. She appears to be working at the White House, possibly as the press secretary for President Calhoun. This new job makes sense within the story. Homelander is now more powerful than ever and essentially controls the government. He trusts Ashley more than most people, even if that trust is based on fear.
If Ashley is indeed the White House press secretary, she will serve as the public voice for Homelander’s regime. Her job will be to spread lies about Starlight, justify the camps holding Homelander’s enemies, and make the supe-controlled government look normal. For a woman who spent years as the face of Vought, this role is a natural, though terrifying, next step.
The big question is how her new powers will affect this job. If she turns into a monster at random moments, giving a press conference could become a disaster. This idea fits perfectly with Minifie’s hint about “humiliating” powers. Imagine Ashley standing at a podium, trying to defend Homelander, while her hair starts attacking the reporters or her body changes in front of the cameras.
Will Ashley Join Forces With Anyone?
Minifie also talked about who Ashley might trust in Season 5. She pointed to A-Train as a possible ally. Over Season 4, the two characters developed a complicated relationship. A-Train, who has been trying to become a better person, asked Ashley to leave Vought with him. She refused, but the door for an alliance remains open.
“There was a really beautiful start to an alliance with A-Train in Season 4 that I really loved,” Minifie said. “I think A-Train was a big pain in Ashley’s ass for a long time, but he also has the closest thing to a moral compass now with the people that are left in The Seven.”
The actress also mentioned Starlight as another possible partner. While Ashley and Starlight have fought for years, Starlight is one of the few people who has seen Ashley as a human being. Minifie believes that if Ashley were to join The Boys, her connection would be with Starlight.
