Peacock has released the first full trailer for Crystal Lake, an eight-episode prequel series that travels back to 1971 to explore the origins of the Friday the 13th mythology. Linda Cardellini stars as Pam Voorhees, the grieving mother whose son’s drowning at Camp Crystal Lake sets off a chain of events that would haunt horror cinema for decades. All eight episodes will premiere on Thursday, October 15, 2026, on Peacock.
Linda Cardellini Steps Into Pamela Voorhees’ Shoes
The trailer opens with Cardellini running desperately toward the lake, diving into the water in search of her son. Set nearly a year after Jason’s drowning, the series shows Pam Voorhees unable to move past her grief. She takes a job as a lunch lady at Camp Crystal Lake, and when two strangers arrive at her door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events begins to unfold.
Cardellini spoke about the role’s physical demands in an interview with Variety. “It does get gory, yes, so much so that I wish sometimes they weren’t as practical as they were,” she said. “There are a couple of gory moments on set that were very practical that were pretty gross. Blood everywhere at one point”.
The actress is joined by a series regular cast that includes William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Callum Vinson recurs as young Jason Voorhees, with Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, and Phoenix Parnevik also appearing in recurring roles.
A Town Left Wondering Who Pam Really Is
The official synopsis describes the series as following “single mother Pam Voorhees who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?”.
The trailer shows Pam telling a local cop, played by William Catlett, “I don’t want to heal. I want to find my son.” She becomes increasingly convinced that Jason is still alive in the woods, and at one point wakes up with a large knife beside her.
A particularly chilling moment comes when a character warns Pam: “What do you think the good people of Crystal Lake would say if they knew what you and Jason really were.” The line is paired with imagery of a laboratory hallway, suggesting the series may introduce a science-fiction element to the Voorhees origin story.
Sackhead Jason and Familiar Franchise Callbacks
Longtime fans will recognize several nods to the original films. The trailer includes a brief shot of what appears to be “Sackhead” Jason running through the forest—a reference to the character’s appearance in Friday the 13th Part 2 before he donned the iconic hockey mask in Part 3. A glimpse of Cardellini wearing Pamela’s familiar blue sweater also serves as a direct connection to the 1980 original.
Set nearly one year after Jason’s drowning, the series fills the gap between that tragedy and Pamela’s eventual massacre at Camp Crystal Lake. The trailer has a distinct made-for-television feel, which some have compared to Bates Motel filtered through the Friday the 13th mythology.
Brad Caleb Kane Leads the Series Behind the Scenes
Brad Caleb Kane serves as the creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer of Crystal Lake. His previous credits include It: Welcome to Derry, Tokyo Vice, and Warrior. He took over the project after original showrunner Bryan Fuller departed in 2024.
Kane described the series as a psychological thriller in a recent interview. “It’s a paranoid ’70s thriller. It has all of the DNA of a slasher without quite being a slasher. There are rivers of blood in the show. There are very, I think, ingenious kill sequences and deaths and murders, but it’s all done in service of character and theme and place and time”.
The executive producing team includes A24, Victor Miller (who wrote the original 1980 film), Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Michael Lennox, and Roy Lee. Lennox, the duo of Celine Held and Logan George, and Quyen Tran directed episodes.
Where and When to Watch Crystal Lake
All eight hour-long episodes of Crystal Lake will be available to stream on Peacock on Thursday, October 15, 2026. In the UK and Ireland, the series will be available exclusively on Sky and streaming service NOW this October. Distribution for India has yet to be confirmed.
The series arrives as the Friday the 13th franchise celebrates 46 years since the original film’s release. The 1980 movie, made on a reported budget of less than $600,000, grossed nearly $60 million and launched one of horror’s most enduring franchises.
