The D23 Expo 2024, held in Anaheim, California, revealed a series of exciting new projects from Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and Walt Disney Animation. This year’s event captivated audiences with a wide range of announcements, showcasing everything from superhero sequels to highly loved animated films. Below is a comprehensive look at the significant reveals from the event.

Marvel Studios Announces New Films and Series, Including Captain America: Brave New World and Agatha All Along

Marvel Studios had a strong presence at D23 2024, with several key announcements that left fans eager for more. Captain America: Brave New World was one of the headliners, with a teaser trailer giving fans a glimpse of the upcoming film. Directed by Julius Onah, the footage featured Harrison Ford‘s character, President Thaddeus Ross, addressing the massive celestial figure, Tiamut, who was seen emerging from the Earth. The movie is set to release on February 14, 2025.

Another major reveal was The Fantastic Four: First Steps, a film that promises to introduce the beloved superhero team into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). A clip from the movie, originally shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, was previewed at D23, highlighting Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards. The footage included a playful scene with The Thing on a retro dating show and ended with an ominous shot of Galactus’s eyes behind a building. Directed by Matt Shakman, this film is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.

Marvel also thrilled audiences with a second trailer for the series Agatha All Along, starring Kathryn Hahn. This nine-episode series, a spin-off from the hit show WandaVision, will explore the aftermath of the events in Westview. The series will premiere its first two episodes on September 18, 2024, on Disney+.

The much-anticipated Iron Heart series was also spotlighted, with footage showcasing Riri Williams navigating her life at MIT while donning her new Iron Heart suit. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the series hinted at the potential antagonist role played by Anthony Ramos. The release date for the series is still to be announced.

Finally, the D23 Expo featured the entire cast of Daredevil: Born Again on stage. The upcoming series promises intense action and deeper exploration of the characters, with the event featuring graffiti art of Daredevil and Kingpin. The series is scheduled for release in March 2025.

Lucasfilm Showcases Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Andor: Season 2, and More

Lucasfilm’s presentation at D23 2024 brought a wave of excitement, especially for Star Wars fans. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, a Disney+ series starring Jude Law, was a major highlight. Law, who appeared on stage to discuss the project, compared the series to classics like Goonies and E.T., emphasizing its focus on a group of young kids. The show is set to premiere in 2024.

Following Skeleton Crew, Diego Luna took the stage to discuss Andor: Season 2. The upcoming season of the Rogue One prequel series is expected to delve deeper into the character’s backstory, with new footage giving fans a taste of what’s to come.

Another major Star Wars announcement was a film centered on Mandalorian and Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the footage shown at the event depicted the Mandalorian infiltrating a Snow Trooper camp, leaving the audience in awe. This film is slated for release on May 22, 2026.

Walt Disney Animation Reveals Moana 2, Zootopia 2, and Frozen III

Walt Disney Animation didn’t disappoint, either, with several major announcements at D23 2024. Moana 2 was introduced with a lively performance by Polynesian dancers, accompanied by Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson. The sequel will explore Moana’s journey as the Chief Leader of her community, along with her three-year-old sister. Directed by David Derrick Jr., the movie will be released on November 27, 2024.

Zootopia 2 also made waves at the event, with a sneak peek of the animated film showcasing new characters and environments. The footage included scenes from a vibrant hippo community, playful sea lions, and a mysterious reptile world. Ke Huy Quan will voice a snake named Gary, while the main characters, Nick and Judy, voiced by Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin, will return. The film is scheduled for release on November 26, 2025.

Lastly, Frozen III was announced, with producer Jennifer Lee hinting at a more extensive world-building approach for the franchise. The third installment, set for release on November 25, 2026, is expected to answer many of the questions left open by the previous films.

The D23 Expo 2024 successfully generated excitement and anticipation for these upcoming projects. From Marvel’s superhero adventures to the expanding Star Wars universe and Disney’s animated sequels, fans have much to look forward to in the coming years.
