The first season of Daredevil: Born Again left fans with more questions than answers. The brutal death of Foggy Nelson in the opening episode sent Matt Murdock into a spiral, while the season finale showed Bullseye behind bars, staring out a broken window with a mysterious smile. Now, with Season 2 right around the corner, showrunner Dario Scardapane is opening up about how these key storylines will finally get resolved.

The Marvel Studios series, which brings back Charlie Cox as the Man Without Fear and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, went through a major creative overhaul after production initially stalled. The result was a first season that set up a terrifying new status quo: Fisk is now the mayor of New York City, he has outlawed vigilantism, and he runs the city like his own personal criminal empire. But the personal losses Matt suffered along the way—especially Foggy’s death—have haunted the season. Scardapane now confirms that Season 2 will directly address these lingering threads.

The Foggy Nelson Question: How Can He Be in Season 2?

One of the biggest talking points among fans has been the apparent return of Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson in Season 2. After his character was shot by Bullseye in the very first episode of Season 1, many assumed Foggy was gone for good. However, promotional materials and teaser trailers have shown glimpses of Foggy, leaving audiences confused about how this is possible.

Scardapane addressed this directly in recent interviews, though he remains careful not to spoil the surprise. The showrunner confirmed that Foggy is indeed part of Season 2, but the how and why is something the creative team worked hard to figure out .

“I am going to take the fifth on all of that with regards to the future,” Scardapane told Entertainment Weekly when pressed about Foggy’s return. “It’s too much fun to give away” .

However, producer Sana Amanat offered a bit more context when speaking with Empire Magazine. She explained that the creative team behind Season 2 had an open road to tell the story they wanted, free from the constraints of footage shot under the previous showrunners . This freedom allowed them to address Foggy’s absence in a meaningful way.

Industry reports suggest that Foggy’s appearances will likely come through flashbacks that bridge the gap between the original Netflix series and Born Again . This would allow the show to explore the history between Matt, Foggy, and Karen without resurrecting a character in a way that feels cheap or unearned. Given how comic books have handled character deaths over the years, there is precedent for Nelson returning, but Scardapane seems intent on making the explanation feel organic to the story they are telling.

Bullseye’s Big Choice: Which Side Will He Pick?

The Season 1 finale gave fans a quick but important check-in with Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye. The assassin, who was responsible for Foggy’s death, sat in a cell looking out at the world with a knowing expression. According to Scardapane, that moment was setting up the central conflict for the character in Season 2.

“Everybody’s got to pick a side,” Scardapane explained in an interview with TV Insider. “Which side are they going to end up on? And that’s a huge part of what’s coming down the road” .

The showrunner made it clear that he is a massive fan of Bethel’s portrayal of the killer. “I’m a huge Wilson Bethel fan. I think that what he’s done with Bullseye is super interesting, and I think that we’ve got a pretty great set of cards to play in terms of our characters. We have an embarrassment of riches at this point” .

With Mayor Fisk running New York and Matt Murdock building a resistance, Bullseye exists in a gray area. He has history with both men. He worked for Fisk in the past, but he also has a personal vendetta against Daredevil. The question of where his loyalties will land—or if he will simply cause chaos for both sides—is expected to be a major driving force in the new season.

Mayor Fisk’s Grip on New York and the Rising Resistance

Season 2 picks up with New York City under the thumb of Wilson Fisk. The new mayor has used his power to declare martial law, and his Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF) actively hunts down anyone who tries to operate outside the law . This puts Daredevil in an impossible position. If he suits up, he is a criminal. If he stays on the sidelines, the city suffers.

Producer Sana Amanat teased the psychological state of Fisk now that he has everything he ever wanted. “What does it mean for Fisk when he’s gotten everything he wants?” she asked. “When you give a person whose thirst cannot be quenched his most valued treasure, is it enough? Or does he squeeze his treasure too hard?” .

This idea of Fisk tightening his grip until it breaks is central to the new season. Meanwhile, Matt Murdock is doing exactly what the finale suggested: he is building an army. The return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones confirms that Matt is not fighting alone. Jones, who has her own complicated history with mind control and corruption thanks to her past encounters with Kilgrave, is joining the resistance .

Amanat explained why Jones fits into this story so well. “[Jones] isn’t necessarily a team-up kind of person,” she said. “So the reason she’s back is because it feels like it’s very personal. She brings edginess and lightness—Daredevil can be very dark and dramatic, and she cuts through the BS in a really fun way” .

Jon Bernthal is also back as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. The post-credits scene in the Season 1 finale showed Castle breaking free from custody, setting the stage for his involvement in the chaos . With a Punisher special also in development for Disney+, Bernthal’s character will likely walk the line between ally and liability for Matt.

New Threats and Political Games

Fisk may be the king of New York, but he is about to face pressure from all sides. Matthew Lillard joins the cast as Mr. Charles, a new antagonist who operates at the highest levels of politics and diplomacy . Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum described Charles as a counterbalance to Fisk, someone who can challenge the mayor not in the streets, but in the boardrooms and halls of power.

“When Wilson Fisk takes over New York, not just as a mayor but as a king in a way… Matthew Lillard’s character represents that,” Winderbaum explained. He added that Fisk will be “dealing with Mr. Charles up here and Daredevil down here for different reasons. So he’s getting squeezed a little bit” .

Lili Taylor also joins the cast as New York’s governor, adding another layer of political tension to the story . With enemies on all sides, Fisk’s position as mayor may not be as secure as he believes.

The show will also deal with the aftermath of Muse, the serial killer introduced in Season 1. Amanat confirmed that Muse’s actions will have a “ripple effect” on the story moving forward .

Scardapane’s Creative Vision: Balancing Politics and Street-Level Action

With the creative overhaul behind them, Scardapane and his team had the freedom to shape Season 2 exactly as they wanted. However, the showrunner recently admitted to having “mixed feelings” about the political direction the show has taken .

While the story of Mayor Fisk allows for timely commentary on power and corruption, Scardapane personally prefers Daredevil to operate at street level. “The playbook is pretty well established, so when we were writing this stuff we were like, ‘Here’s what he does,’” Scardapane said of the political parallels. “There are a few sequences that were shot a year ago that could be off the news, and it’s weirding all of us out” .

He went on to explain his philosophy. “Stan Lee once said that he wanted to make his comic books a reflection of the world you saw outside your window. Then I also believe that what’s fun about the genre, and definitely fun in working with superheroes, is you’re dealing with huge archetypes, almost mythological characters, and that’s fun writing” .

Scardapane confirmed that as the Mayor Fisk storyline wraps up in Season 2, the plan moving forward is to return to a more grounded, street-level approach inspired by the Frank Miller-era comics. “So yeah, it was fun to play in the realm of politics but I like something a little more street level, personally” .

Release Date and What Comes Next

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on March 24, 2026, on Disney+ . The season will consist of eight episodes, continuing the story directly from where Season 1 left off.

For global audiences, the show will be available on Disney+ in the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia. In India, it will stream on JioHotstar .

Looking further ahead, Marvel has already greenlit a third season . Additionally, the events of Season 2 will connect to the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Winderbaum confirmed that the creative teams are coordinating to ensure the worlds align while maintaining their distinct tones . This means that whatever happens in Hell’s Kitchen could have ripple effects that Spider-Man will have to deal with on the big screen.

Charlie Cox also addressed rumors that Season 2 might be the end, pushing back on the idea and stating that he does not “believe it will end there” . Vincent D’Onofrio echoed this sentiment, suggesting that the story of these characters is far from over.

As the March premiere date approaches, fans can expect more trailers and promotional materials to drop. For now, the message from Scardapane is clear: the questions raised in Season 1 will get answers, the characters will have to choose sides, and the battle for New York is just beginning.
